I’ve been stuck lower mid plat for so long and the past few days(I just started playing comp again) it’s been win loss win loss. But most of my losses are because of the other team having smurf account, my team one tricking torb beacause they “want to get to diamond only playing torb” or people flat out leaving, which happens the most and then my team struggles to push the cart with 5 or even 4 people. This game has been so frustrating for me and I love playing it when its a genuine competitive match up but all it ever seems to be is and unfair or thrown game.

Having a 50% win rate means you’re basically at your skill level.
The enemy team has the same chance of having smurfs, throwers, leavers, and trolls.
Focus more on your game and less on the other variables.

Besides that, I just wanna say:
Elo hell, is and isn’t real at the same time. It usually is perceived as one specific rank where it’s impossible for anyone to climb out of. If that’s how you define it, then no, elo hell isn’t real; it’s just some made up excuse to protect your own pride and ego.
Think of it like this: elo hell is different for everyone because it’s just the rank they’re stuck at. Someone’s elo hell might be bronze or silver or gold or plat or diamond or masters or gm because they’re just having a hard time climbing out of it.
At least you aren’t stuck right below Gold.
Just remember that the odds are exactly the same (actually a little higher) for the enemy team to get throwers and leavers instead of your team. Blaming “elo hell” on them is just denying actual problems.
False. I’m on 50% because I’ll have game where people know what to do and win, then a game where my DPS is useless and lose. Being in diamond+ also means I see a lot of the same players when I Q, guy I smashed last game? Now he’s on my team and still getting smashed. Brilliant.
I think you guys are partially right but I forgot to mention I always play comp grouped up with my 2 friends and I think comp is slightly broken for grouping
If You want to get to diamond pick heros who can carry people if you really feel like your teammates aren’t pulling their weight. Dps characters or maybe an ana or a zen if you really want to stick with supporting. Stop after a loss. It’s an unfun way to play but if you really want to climb its the most effective way to do it. Win streaks are big but loss streaks can pile up fast and losing can tilt you which leads to more losing.
I do want to say this in a nice way. If any the reason you aren’t at the rank you should be has anything to do with your teammates you are the problem. That is a super unproductive attitude to have. You have to focus on what you can do and what you have control over self analysis can make you a better player and can help you climb. You have to drag your team kicking and screaming some games if you wanna get the W.

I don’t believe in elo hell for a second, if you gave me a plat account I could one trick moria all the way to high masters within a week.

Im also going to chime in and say that I really dont think elo hell exists, and same as thorn but ~3600 instead of high masters.
I’m in supposed ELO hell and it’s MY fault. I’ve checked Oversumo and most days I play a gold standard Pharah and Zenyatta. Why am I still Silver? I play too much. When I gain sr I play more and loose it all and more. In 20 days I can gain 400 sr if I make 20 sr every day. Not too hard huh?
I was practicing on an alt account and deranked to about 600 sr lower than my true skill rating. I was right at around 2500 and the games were just as challenging as they are at 3100. I was able to rank back up but I had to put forth the same amount of effort I do in 3100+ games.
The matchmaker is a complete smoke screen, the skill levels are all over the place, it’s a disaster.
Elo hell would be less real if there were fewer games where my team is all high level plats vs low level “plats” destroying everyone and everything. I’m glad that smurfs aren’t a problem. Really weird that my games are currently about 80% accounts <200 owning face… not a problem at all.
I placed 3100 and went on the worst losing streak of my life, almost every game is against at least 2 but sometimes 6 smurfs that just toy with my team. I nearly fell to gold!? I’ve barely even been in plat and now I can’t get out of it cause Blizz likes to put smurfs on the other team.

This. Having so little players in Diamond and above means at specific time, you will even get top 500 in your team with 4 high masters in enemy team. It also means you will get a solo-stack vs six-stack.
Oversumo is an illusion my friend. I’m at 98% better than Zarya on my tier. That doesn’t mean I am suddenly a master. It just means there are more Zaryas who can collaborate better with the team, or getting the necessary picks instead of blindly getting gold dmg and elim like I am. Stats is an illusion.
What you mean by Elo hell is actually just a lack of a role queue system.
I understand your concerns but I use Oversumo to judge my mechanical skills, not my overall skill; obviously my gamesense is not measured by stats but my mrchanics are worse than my gamesense so if I’m stuck at any rank I’ll look to mechanics before gamesense.
