Eichenwalde sucks

The first attack/defend point sucks the last point sucks, in between there is OK but still not the best.

This map is in desperate need of a rework. It’s so horrible.

I disagree, Eichenwalde is one of the better designed maps.

Drop your map tier list for hybrid

S King’s Row
A Mid Town
B Numbani
C Eichenwalde, Paraiso
D Hollywood

The first choke on attack for Eichenwalde is a pain, the rest of it isn’t too terrible.

But getting stuck in first choke sucks so badly.

All escort/hybrid are bad. They all are biased towards defense team. I despise playing any of them and the sole reason I don’t play comp as of now. Maybe with maps bans, I give it a try.

My only issue with the first choke on Eichenwalde is that 95% of my teammates exclusively run down the main road rather than using the various cover, buildings and angles.

Run main, eat spam, die, pikachuface, repeat.

Going over the rooftops with airborne/dive heroes works too, or even have dps approaching from behind by going across the rift on the right with Pharah/Echo/Mercy/Ball, maybe even Juno? Or Kiriko by teleporting.

Just stop going main if that is where they spam. You make it too easy for the enemy if you exclusively go there.

Well, if we’re doing tier lists:

A - King’s, Hollywood, Midtown, Eichen
B - Blizzard World
C - Paraiso, Numbani

I’ve got the feeling that there’s at least one more hybrid map that I’m forgetting about. RIP my cred. :headstone:

There’s something odd about Eichenwald. You can hold first for a good while, then hold as the cart comes through the gate for even longer. But once they get a team-kill in that area they often just walk to the end. Certainly walk to the end of 2nd point because you only have 2 narrow doors to come out of and it’s easy for the attackers to stop you as they have the angles and all you have is 2 corridors.

So many payload/hybrid maps have problems on 2nd point (circuit, route-66, gibraltar, paraiso, and so on).

It start off fine but the end point feels unwinnable…

Kings road is fun all the way but Hollywood need a third or rework alternative routs… Now that I think about it Eichenwalde and Hollywood have the same problem.

Some dps and tanks can go over the buildings and straight to the point, forcing the defending team to leave the choke and get pincered by your team.

Some supports can also go over/through the buildings with the help of the dps, and lucio can just skate around the map to the point. Moira can just go through the defending team to join her team.

If you can’t go through the choke, go around it.
Most teams under diamond don’t expect it.

It’s not their best map, but definitely better than the maps they have produced recently.

Most of my games on Route-66 and Gibraltar finish in 2nd point.

Route-66 you push up to the left-hand turn but if you get stopped between that turn and the cap of 2nd point it’s very hard to get moving again as the other team has all high-ground an you can only come through 3 narrow entrances into the area which are all easy to cover from any of the high-ground.

Gibraltar is problematic if the cart gets stopped just after you get through the big gate and it closes coming into 2nd point. The enemy has higher ground on the ship and all the high-ground covers all 4 entrances. If you get it moving again and it gets stopped on the little slope then you have to do it all over again and you usually run out of time.

Paraiso is similar on 2nd. If you get it along the long corridor and turn left onto the little hill, often that’s where the game will end as defenders have high-ground advantage all along that corridor and much of it is not accessible to non-climbing/jumping/flying heroes. Games end too often just before or under the bridge.

Circuit also gives too much high-ground advantage to the defenders on 2nd point. If your team dies just after capping 1st or on the next corner, it’s very hard to get it moving again. If they die just after capping then they often get spawn camped in 2nd attacker spawn as well. Not a well-designed spawn room/point.

Shambali most often ends on the switchback hills of 2nd point or just after coming out into the open space before 2nd point cap. Once the team all dies on the switchbacks, it’s very hard to get back to moving the cart as the other team has all the high-ground and the alternative route is easy to cover from the same place.

Most maps with problems seem to be worst on 2nd point.

Agree I don’t like blizzard world first point either, most teams just keep walking in main entrance like NPCs and die on repeat

It’s very appropriate that this was posted by a DVa icon. Is it because point B is the only good DVa point on the map?

Ask someone to solve that problem by going Lucio and booping them off the high ground. Or switch to ball/Dva yourself and clear the high ground

S - Raining Blizzardworld, Halloween Eichenwald, Halloween Hollywood, Christmas King’s, Christmas Eichenwald

The others are fine. The Hybrid maps have the best alternative/holiday skins.

Eichenwald 2nd is one of the best points in the game

They’re all kind of the same:

First point is a tight choke point with a tighter corridor flank(s). Opens up to a capture point where defense has high ground advantage

Second point opens up wide with more flank routes and high ground

Third point feels cone shaped and gives defenders spawn advantage

They’re all the same tier to me because of that. BlizzWorld first choke is the most annoying though
