Editing software suggestions?

Hey guys, I’m looking to get into creating overwatch montages and learning relative high tier video editing in general (using overwatch as a gateway because it’s something I’m passionate about).

What software should I get? After Effects? Premier pro? Vegas?

Lightworks? It’s free up until a certain point and it’s pretty much on par with Premiere.

Premiere Pro CC has been the best, easiest & cheapest one for me atleast.

After Effect is nice addition to Premier but you probably wouldn’t use it much in montages video, first I would search for free alternative,
because it would be sad if you buy subscription to program you are going to use once.

Premiere Pro CC is about $21 a month.
It is my go to because I have used it for years.

What Wisewolf said is true. I am partial to Premiere because I am very familiar with it.
But if you are new to it and want to try some free options:

Blender is a good option to try, I use it for other things never used it for video editing but you can.

Davinci Resolve is another free program. It has a learning curve though.

I’ve been editing for 13 years and no offence to the Premier people but it’s not the best option IMO. If you’re on mac then Final Cut Pro X is the best for quick offline editing. It has a different way of doing things, but ultimately edits way quicker than anything else on the market, which I can objectively prove if anyone wants to debate this.

On both PC and Mac I would recommend Davinci Resolve 16 though. There is a free version with almost all the features available. Not only is it an editing program, it is also one of the industry leading color correction software (which it started as). On top of this it has a built in VFX, node based (like Nuke, and much deeper than After Effects) compositing tool called Fusion. It ALSO has Fairlight built in which is like Protools a professional audio suite.

All of this in one program where you never have to switch between Premier and Ater Effects etc.

Don’t get me wrong, Premiere is good, and the Adobe ecosystem has a lot going for it. But Resolve is so much better and totally free. I still think FCPX edits faster than Resolve but it costs $300. Try Resolve, they are updating and moving ahead at a pace Adobe can’t match.

No one would take offense, I just edited to mention Resolve. :stuck_out_tongue:
