I completely forgot these books existed.
This brings back some memories.
Are the covers really that disturbing?
Bruh i remember those books in my school library, they were the only interesting things besides 39 Clues and Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Glad they referenced that book but Echo reminds me more of a Shiny Mew from Pokemon.
Funny you brought that up. Because I initially thought her spray and head design did resemble the H.R Gigers monster.
I do vaguely remember Animorphs (only remembered those covers gave me nightmares when I was little) but not the extent of others here.
Damn Zoomers don’t even know what an Andalite is
Is that what those things are called, Andalites?
I remember just looking at a bunch of those book covers in the school library and laughing.
I thought this was obvious
So not only is this about kids that can turn into animals to fight a clandestine war, it’s actually just the latest set piece for a larger conflict between two beings that have gained the power of gods and are treating the galaxy like PVP mode in an RTS.
Rachel (the girl on the cover) is briefly placed on a higher state of awareness regarding this and is forced to fight the shock troops of the guy controlling the bad guys in this thing, and for reasons I forget right now becomes a 50 foot muscle woman with long nails to fight them gladiator style.
These books were wild as hell.
And then there’s the time that one of the main characters (a 14-15yo, mind you) gets kidnapped and tortured and has PTSD flashbacks for the rest of the series.
Or the time that they ‘recruit’ a new member of the team by destroying his house and letting his family become enslaved by aliens. He then turns on them and tries to kill them all. So they decide that it’s better to imprison him on a remote island for the rest (as a rat - long story) of his life rather than kill him.
Or the time that they start recruiting disabled children as their own personal army to fight in a war and they all get slaughtered one by one.
Those books are some serious sh*t.
I didn’t get it. I never read them when I was young. I went for Goosebumps.
Animorphs sweetie I’m so sorry that ugly butt echo would even say that oh my god
Or the fact that they killed off my favorite character in the last book and that it didn’t even have a happy ending
The author confirmed a few years ago that the ending was a callback to something earlier in the series. The implication is that they all survived (except the one that died at the start of the book, obviously).
Ultimately the series is about war, and war doesn’t have a happy ending.
So like… Rachel’s ashes being spread to the wind by Tobias was all a dream? Lol
I got the war has no winners part but did they have to kill off the bad b? Why not, like, Jake
I thought it was related to the meme from Zero Hour, where this conversation happens:
Echo: “Hello Winston !”
Winston: “Echo !”
Echo: Turns into Winston “Echo !”
Winston: Confused in monkey scientist
No, all of it happened. What I mean is that the remaining characters survived the cliff-hanger ending.
Ohhh. Yeah, idk. I did love those books though. I just remembered the one where Rachel turned into a starfish, got cut in half, but because starfishes regenerate when she turned back into a human there was an evil clone of herself. Wild
Nice.
