I play Tracer/Sombra/Soldier on dps, and I can play Genji, but am still only practicing with him in qp. On support I play projectile heroes, so I’m competent with projectile characters…
Anyway I have been practicing a lot with Echo in qp and I am terrible. I die too often and too easily, Sometimes I do things that feel good, like poke the tank with the team, then take a sneaky airborne angle for focussing beam, but that doesn’t happen often enough to justify the pick…
Any Echo mains out there want to flex their knowledge and give me some pointers?
You need to either play out of the enemies effective range since you do very good ranged damage or play directly on top of them looking to explode someone preferably with your ultimate for an escape.
For getting close you have lots of options like flying over a roof, going super high and gliding down as they rotate, or just using the tap fly trick to quickly get in range. It helps to throw in shots between abilities as well like shoot + bombs + shoot + beam.
I would suggest trying to use hold to fly because this allows you to jump + tap to get insane height or just tap + hold jump in any direction to get more burst movement. A benefit of this is your fly instantly goes on cooldown letting you glide and basically have your cd by the time you land. There are different timings for how long you press fly that give different heights.
I personally use mouse 5 for glide + crouch on shift so I have full movement without letting go of wasd and more comfortable going down.

Quick tip if you feel like you’re dying too much.
Slow down, play safer. Be a little more methodical with what you do. Then over time be slightly more aggressive til you get to a point where you’re just a constant menace again.

i love Echo but its rather difficult to get use out of her flying capabilities when you are on a console… any tips??? i switched secondary fire button with jump so that i have fly moment handy but i felt like i am sacrificing secondary fire (that i think is the sticky bombs).

Not an Echo main, but she’s my second pick if Tracer is taken or not working. Play like a projectile Tracer without spread or falloff. It’s roughly the same skillset.

Jump to left trigger, sticky bombs to pressing the left stick. That’s what I ran on console, at least

The best answer I can give here is play her like you play tracer.
Also just because you can fly, doesn’t mean you should. You make a noise when airborne and you are silent when walking.
Take angles and apply pressure when your team engages, just like tracer. You don’t always have to force engages and always position near cover or vertical escapes.
If you are positioned with your team and poking, don’t fly. You are just making your self a target. If you are poking from outside of their effective range then by all means fly up.
Use your flight to reposition during a fight or disengage, refrain from using it to engage unless you are sure you will win the engagement.
Copying the enemy support is hugely under rated and is usually a far more reliable way to farm the copied ult quickly.

This is a big one. See too many copying the tank as default.
The amount of fights/games I’ve won just copying the support and then having 50% more healing for our tank to roll.
Moira is always a good target to copy.
