Echo controls workaround - Console

Since Echo’s button mapping is… let’s say “Less than ideal” for controllers, I just thought I’d share the way I worked around this which may hopefully work for others too.
(I’ll be using Xbox buttons as reference)

Flight - A
Sticky Bombs - RB
Jump/Glide - LT

It takes a while to get used to but this set-up is honestly more comfortable to me than the alternative.
I hope, then, that this will be helpful to people who are also finding the current configuration uncomfortable. I also implore other console players who’ve done similar re-mapping to share their layouts.

(Please, Blizz, let us remap glides independently to the Secondary Fire button…)

Lol Blizzard really did this again. First it was Mercy’s Rez and now Echo’s Sticky Bombs.

This is probably the beat solution to the whole thing

At least resurrection makes more sense. Because, you only use it when someone is dead and you’re near them. So, most of the time, having angelic descent tied to it, isn’t a big deal.

The bombs on the other hand…

Bad controls…

Here’s what you should have if you choose to play the annoying gnat:

Jump - LT
Primary - RT
Secondary - RB
Fly - Click Left Thumb Stick
Beam - Click Right Thumb Stick
Duplicate - Y

Sure.

Echo:

RT - Primary Fire
RB - Jump/Glide
Y - Beam
B - Bombs
A - Flight
LB - Ult
LT - Interact
R3 - Crouch
L3 - Melee

I use a similar flight mechanic on Mercy. I put Rez/Angelic Descent on RB, so I can hold it with a finger while keeping my thumb on the stick. If I need to use RT as well, I use my index finger for RB and my middle finger for RT

I hope this helps

I kept the default button mapping however I simply binded jump to L3 instead of X

Quick question, do yall play claw or do you use a controller with back buttons?
Im honestly surprised to see anyone use the front buttons if they arent using either of the previously mentioned methods🤔

I use almost this exact setup, except leaving her beam as L1 or LB for Xbox players.

LB as crouch gives you better flight control

I use the default Xbox controller if that answers your question.
You get used to the default set-up since the things on the face buttons aren’t something you’re using constantly.
Echo’s glide does not fall into that category… :pensive:

Neither. I used to have back buttons on my old controller, but not this one.

I use my thumb for most face buttons. But. I have most things set to Toggle. So, for example, Solider Sprint is on B and Toggle. So, I just hit it quick with my thumb and then move it back really quick.

As for Echo, all face buttons are quick. I don’t have to hold down Flight (that’s on Toggle too), Reload, Beam, or Bombs. They’re all just quick buttons taps. Something I can easily do and put my thumb back on the right stick without much issue.

This is probably the best way to go about it

The float really should have been tied to the glide by default, or have its own individual mapping possibility

I just swapped Sticky Bombs and Jump. X is now sticky bomb and I use L2 to glide/hop.

Really wish they gave us some more button configuration options…

Bliz has some questionable button mapping. Like I dont wanna have to stretch my hand all the way across the keyboard to crouch with baptist. That button is in an awful spot and why not just map the super jump to the spacebar? You just hold it and go sailing.

Right? Even console players have talked about how clunky that is.

Yeah even though circle and X are close by holding crouch to extra jump seems weird

I really wish there was a way to button map her flight to double tap A - similar to Genji’s double jump or Hanzo dash.

(I play on PS4 so it’s X for me, but…) I second this. Double tapping X to glide and then double tapping like O or just hitting X again to cancel would be so much better than the button cancer we have to glide now.

Yeah, played her for a bit and I had to jerryrig her layout

Jet Boost- LB
Jump/Glide- LT
Beam- Right direction key
Sticky Bombs- RB
Primary- RT

After almost 5 years of everyone having jump on my right joystick, playing Echo is hell- and swapping mid round is even worse now… but the layout works at least

Oof. My heart goes out to you, here. Been playing with Controllers for over 20 years and I know how crappy it is to have anything worth a damn bound to a directional button.

Directional buttons should only be used for two things, in my opinion. One, moving in a direction (duh). And, two, something “throw away”, like a voice command or something (“Thanks”, “Understood”, “I need healing”, That sort of stuff).

Tying it to an ability? Ugh…
