Echo console controls

Devs, is there any update on possible changes for console controls? The only response to the issue I’ve seen was one reply on the subreddit but that was a few weeks ago.

I still can’t use Echo effectively on PS4 as long as her sticky bombs and glide are tied to the same button. I suggest either allowing glide to be bound to its own button or allowing us to bind one ability to multiple buttons (would like to have jump on both X and L2 for Echo). It’s weird that one extra ability could mess her up so badly for us because Pharah and Mercy handle beautifully with controllers.

Any response would be appreciated.

There are not enough buttons on the controller if a hero has more than 3 abilities + ult (4 total)? I’ve been a PC player my entire life and last time i played on console with controller was like 10 years ago so i’m curious.

I don’t understand the issue

I have 0 problems with Echo, never have

Are you sure it is not just you because her sticky is not on the same key as glide?

It’s not an issue for any of the other heroes but it’s tough for Echo because you need to be able to hold down glide and still freely aim and move. It’s the flight that makes it tough. It’s not an issue with Pharah because I can use L2 (left trigger) with my finger to hover while still freely moving and aiming with my thumbs but that’s only because Pharah has no alternate fire ability. It works with Mercy, too, because her rez is on the left trigger and that does nothing unless I’m next to a dead person so I’m free to use that for gliding in the air. Echo’s alt fire is sticky bombs so the only way I can use that trigger to hover right now is to blow the sticky bombs every time I press it. Right now there’s no way to separate the glide function from whatever button sticky bombs is on. The only temporary workaround is that the jump button also uses glide but the default jump key is X (bottom button next to my right thumb) for every FPS in like the last decade so I can’t re-map jump to the left trigger to use for gliding unless I break my muscle memory of using it on X, which isn’t practical for one hero since that’s how I’ve been jumping with a controller since PS2. It’d be like if PC players had to suddenly stop using spacebar to jump and learn to use it on a different key instead.

Glide is tied to the alternate fire button no matter where you map it. It’s also tied to the jump button, but I can only have the jump button mapped to one place in Overwatch so I’m not free to move it over to the trigger without losing it on its default button, too.

Untrue for me :flushed::point_right:t5::point_left:t5:

What button do you use for glide and what other ability is tied to that button?

You can remap all the buttons.
my setup is

LB - Flight
LT - Glide/Jump
L3 - Focusing Beam
RB - Sticky Bombs
RT - Primary
R3 - Melee

And then face buttons are interact, ult, crouch, reload. D-pad for comms.
Genji is set up very similarly to this for me, as well.

L1 to jump/glide

Jump and alt fire are the only buttons that allow you to glide and that’s part of my issue. If I could put jump on one of the triggers or bumpers and also use it on X (A for you), that’d be fine but I can’t map jump to multiple buttons. I’ve used that button to jump for every shooter for many years and I can’t break that muscle memory for one hero by moving jump to a trigger. I think it’s more practical for us to have more control mapping options. It’d be like PC players suddenly not being able to jump with spacebar anymore and having to learn to use it on a different key for just one game.

I’d you’re on PS4 invest in the back button attachment. You can rebind o and X to become a pseudo R4 and L4. It’s £25 and along with Kontrol Freeks, the best thing I have bought for the PS4, attachment wise.

Also. Everyone one of my heroes is now on L2. You just have to get used to it and after a couple of games it becomes second nature.

Bind jump to left trigger and sticky bombs to whatever empty button you want

This is your only option. And it’s not one hero, it’s 3 at minimum since Genji, Lucio and Echo all demand jump being on a trigger/shoulder.
