Easy goats fix for OWL

Why doesn’t OWL just tell the teams they must play 2-2-2? This requires 0 effort from the devs, it doesn’t cause dps players to wait 30 minutes for games, it doesn’t force an off tank to sit around while the junkrat/reaper mains are letting the pharah destroy the team.

The biggest dumb thing about them not doing this is I feel like they always say they want the pros to be playing the same game as casual players. Well in this case they aren’t. The only place you see goats is the pro scene, so just stop it there instead of forcing 2-2-2 onto everyone else.

They’ve been playing GOATS for past 6 months to win…

You expect them to be fresh on DPS?

But they play dps in OWL too. Its not just GOATS 24/7…

What happens when you’re stalling the point in overtime? Can Jjonak not whip out his legendary Mei (and less legendary Reinhardt)?

I really don’t think forced 2-2-2 is the solution. It seems simple, but I think it’s very lazy and shortsighted.

the base game should be the same as OWL in terms of rulesets.

Would you include a rule where all teamwipes must be a nanoblade? Because that’s one way to artificially craft the viewing experience

GOATs isn’t a problem for OWL. The OWL players are playing what they think is their best shot at winning. 2-2-2 is just pointless restrictions.

GOATs meta a problem to the devs who don’t want a meta to be too dominant for too long, causing it to be stale etc.

This is liked at the same time everyone is pushing for 2-2-2 for everyone instead of just OWL. :woman_shrugging:

I think it’s a bad idea for everyone, OWL and us plebs in ranked.

Not to mention blizz has been pretty clear that they dont want to just get RID of goats…thats never been the goal…they want to bring it down or other METAS up to a similar level so that one isnt favored…mandating one would just change from one stale thing to another stale thing

and worth pointing out that for as much as people are saying they hate watching it…the numbers dont exactly show that…

the simply way to fix goats, dive or whatever meta who comes is make every hero has a ‘ult cap’ in 2 or 3 per game.

With this simply fix you adress various problems:

  1. you kill Meta reigning for 1 year with no need of massive nerfs or buffs to x hero because “he has 90% usage on this meta”.

  2. Now we can have more diversity on compositions per game, since if you win, idk, round 1 of a koth map playing goats, the 2 round you are “forced” to play another comp because you cap zarya/rein ult usage of 2 the previous round, or now you cant run lucio zen together because you lose 2 defensive ults till the end of the game.

  3. And more important to me, you add strategy to OWL: now teams have to planificate every round based in what hero they will use before they are forced to switch due to ult cap, or based in what comp enemy team will use.

And obviously, this will work only for OWL, because you know, communication and that stuff.

Jeff also said that the ideal situation is when a meta shifts organically.

Honestly, I think we were starting to see that even before the most recent patch, and we’re definitely seeing it now. It’s still a great comp on some maps and in some situations, but when more teams are dismantling it with DPS-heavy comps, I think we’ll see even more variation.

At the end of the day, there’s a lot riding on these teams winning or losing. They’ll always play the safest and most reliable comps until it’s shown that there’s something better.

More like GOATs 23/7.

They won’t enforce a 2-2-2 role lock until they also enforce it in the main game. They don’t want OWL to be any different than what players can find in the game at home.

(Expect for OWL being on LAN)

That makes no sense, because hardly anybody plays GOATs on ladder.

And almost everybody plays 2-2-2 above Silver in Comp.

Although a 2HealerRoleMax would be even better, since it would allow for TripleDPS+2Heal or TripleTank+2Heal

Where are you getting that info from?

I wouldn’t expect it to be drastically different, but it’d probably make more sense to look specifically at stage two stats (which started April 4th).

But they have the option to play Goats if they want. If OWL no longer has that option, then they will restrict ranked as well. It’s the right thing for them to do.

Didn’t you just say that it’s important that the audience identify with what’s being played in OWL?

And GOATs is almost completely divorced from what’s actually played on ladder.

Which by your own definition, means that the audience can’t identify with GOATs, and is therefore a problem.

No. I was talking about the options in the game client itself.

Why is an invisible and rarely ever used rule, somehow more important than actual gameplay people are watching?

You’re worrying too much about this. They will make the change, it just might take a little while longer.
