Why was the game marketted as “Early Access” for October 4th, when the news of the scrapping of the PVE happened months prior? Wasn’t the whole point of releasing it in Early Access to be able to get the main game out in 2023? The only reason I can think of them keeping the Early Access title is they couldn’t have broken the news prior to launch or it would’ve hurt their sales and launch.
Seems very scummy to be that it was still advertised and monetized this way when they already knew about the decision. So where’s the announcement the game is out of Early Access? What is it even Early Access to anymore?

Well yeah I know the answer, I’m just stating the question for the thread. Obviously it’s they manipulated the market and monetization of their game, or else no one would’ve bought anything if this news broke out when it was actually confirmed months prior to October 4th, when it was still labled as “Early Access”. To me a lot of people are mentioning the packs, and although misleading in belief, never directly said “PVE”, the words 'Early Access" were the words they used when the PVE was already scrapped so that to me is a big example of their manipulation of sales and happiness of the consumers

To get as much money as possible with minimal responsibility when things go south, cz you know…it’s still in Early Access.
Incompetent dev will be incompetent.

We’re 7 months into the game, 4 seasons down. I can for sure say that they are now in a good spot financially to break this news. On a buisness side it makes sense to do it now, before the game it would’ve tanked your whole release and sales, and during s1-2 people wuold’ve just stopped playing then. By them saying this now, not even in an announcement video, a 8 min segment after 30 minutes of how good starwatch is, it seems like they are trying to underplay the outcome, and that just isn’t the case.
But if you’re looking at it on the buisness perspective of LONG TERM SALES and relevance in the world or gaming community, then it was a horrible decision. They could’ve gave everyone who owned OVerewatch 1 the campagin for free, charged for DLC’s, and made new players purchase it for $40-$60, they could’ve gotten more money for this. But I guess the question comes in, are they really making money? Or have they spent so money on this process that charging $40 -$60 with new players for a base game and $ for DLC’s just isn’t enough to makeup for what we’ve worked on? Why Spend more money just for peoples enjoyments? Who cares a bunch of people get upset at something we manipulated advertised, we are already making our money on this new monetization system, why not integrate PVE into our new monetization system? That’s most likely their thoughts, and by they I mean the Higher Ups at Activision Blizzard, Game Devs have nothing to do with this.
Also just wanted to make mention my $60 purchase on Overwatch 1, where did that money go? The game is free now, so everyone was just okay with the idea as we have all thought we would get PVE for free as the way the y"advertised it" as all Overwatch 1 players will get Overwatch 2 for free, they never said PVP or PVE, they just said Overwatch 2. But like, doesn’t everyone get it for free? So yes while their choice of words isn’t false, it’s very manipulative as the way they intended it to sound for sure was not direct enough to come across as PVP or PVE. Very manipulative on their end, I guess the money we spent on a game is technically no longer. I could just download it for free now, my money spent means absolutly nothing, well the money put in was meant for the development of the PVE, so yeah everyones money got flushed down the toilet, whether it was preorder packs or what.
They wanted earlier access to your wallet.
On a serious note, “Early Access” means nothing for big publishers. It can be a way for smaller or Indie studios to help secure funding for a game they’re working on. But big stuff that gets made from AAA developers and publishers? They already greenlit that project. They already funded it. If a multi-million dollar corporation tells you they’re selling a product and they “promise they’ll finish it later,” don’t give them a cent until it’s finished, or if you’re fine with buying what they’re selling as-is.
I’d assume by early access it could also have meant that ow2 wasn’t actually finished yet. Like, if we’re being real, ow2 is kinda still in beta mode that they’re attempting to patch up. Sometimes in the right way, often in the wrong way.
