☯️ | Each Character's Alignment

Seen a post asking for a “pure evil” character and decided to compile this list based off of the DnD character alignments. I will say really quick that there is no such thing as good and evil, one man’s terrorist is another’s freedom fighter. Its all about perspective and subjectivity. Anyways onto the list:

Ashe - Chaotic Neutral
Not following the rules of society and often seeking out deals/treasures to further her own motives. Even though Ashe might cause destruction and breaking of the law, she does look out for her deadlock gang as a family.

Bastion - True Neutral
Bastion does not take any sides, and is a product of a shaky past. Although he is being taken care of by former Overwatch engineer Torbjorn, Bastion is not for or against any ideology. Bastion does however hold a great respect and love for nature.

Doomfist - Chaotic Good
Not bound by laws, Doomfist will cause chaos and destruction but not for no reason. He sees war and conflict as a way to improve society, to cleanse the broken/abusable to force it to become stronger. In the moment most will view him as evil, but in time his actions create more good than bad.

Genji - Lawful Neutral
After achieving inner peace, Genji is attempting to bring Hanzo onto his redeemed path. It is unsure what the future holds for him, but it appears honorable and lawful.

Hanzo - Lawful Neutral
Haunted by his misdeeds, Hanzo is a once honorable character seeking redemption for himself and his family. As far as I can tell, he is trying to do so within the confines of the law.

Junkrat - Chaotic Neutral
A being of pure chaos and insanity. Junkrat cares not for ideologies or current events. He only seeks to fulfill his own needs no matter how outlandish.

Mccree - Neutral Good
Mccree does not really have an honorable system, nor does he always follow the law. However he does seek out justice when needed, and he is willing to cooperate with government officials to achieve a better future for others.

Mei - True Neutral
She does not have any code of honor or any sort of ideology. Mei does however, want to see the environment improve and will fight for a “better world” if need be. (If talon seeks to improve the environment, Mei would support them)

Pharah - Lawful Good
Total Honor and never leaving someone behind. Pharah is a loyal arial commander who is familiar with the price of war.

Reaper - Chaotic Evil
A terrorist and murderer whose only wishes is to see others suffer. This low-functioning psychopath does not fit in with society at all, always clinging to the shadows and having very little human contact outside of hurting others.

Soldier76 - Chaotic Good
Calculative man on a mission to bring peace and order as well as avenge Overwatch. Soldier76 will break laws to bring about his goals, and is off the radar.

Sombra - Neutral Evil
Sombra exploits everything and does not care who gets hurt along the way. Her goal to seek out the “eye” often has her seeking quick and powerful friends that she can dispose of if need be.

Symmetra - Lawful Neutral
Even though her heart is in the right place, her loyalty might become her outdoing. Symmetra follows the Vishkar Corporation’s motivations with little to no questions.

Torbjorn - Neutral Good
Torbjorn is now a retired engineer, however he still feels shameful of his past in helping to design the Omnics. If the situation ever arises, he would certainly take any chance to avenge himself in a pinch.

Tracer - Lawful Good
Always on the lookout for terrorists and will protect the vulnerable. She has not broken serious laws like soldier76, and is living lawfully in society.

Widowmaker - Chaotic Evil
Although not outright killing everyone all the time, she does take pleasure in the thrill of killing others with or without pay. Widowmaker is similar to a vampire, needing to kill so they can feel alive. This high-functioning psychopath can blend in society, yet laugh at other peoples despair.

D.Va - Lawful Good
A selfless hero who will do everything in her power to save her friends and country. Even if it involves sacrificing herself.

Orisa - Lawful Good
Orisa is bound to law and will try her best not to break it. She is the true police officer of Overwatch, protecting others and trying to keep the peace. But remember she is still new at this, so some mistakes will be made.

Reinhardt - Lawful Good
A steadfast protector who cannot sit idle and see others get hurt. He will protect the weak no matter who they are, Omnic or human.

Roadhog - Chaotic Evil
A cold blooded killer who is calculative and only seeks personal gain through violence and despair. This high-functioning psychopath can blend somewhat into a society when need be, then dish out the damage with his friend Junkrat. (Often looking out for junkrat as well, perhaps hog is not a psychopath but misunderstood)

Winston - Chaotic Good
Winston seeks a better future for the world, and does not want to see the world around him crumble. Although his heart is in a good place, he is still breaking the law by resurrecting Overwatch.

Wreckingball - Chaotic Neutral
Seeking out his own needs, WreckingBall does not have any particular leaning to any ideology. He does however break some laws and has proven himself to be cunning and perhaps to an extent manipulative. However the little hamster is probably not seeking to intentionally hurt others and is still friends with Winston.

Zarya - Lawful Neutral
Zarya is a nationalist who will do anything for her country an its people. She has no love for omnics and probably will never view them as equals. She certainly will follow her own honor code but might not always protect everyone.

Ana - Chaotic Good
A hidden protecter of the desert. Ana is the nicest candy giving grandma ever. However she is rogue, and is using biotic technology in a somewhat inhuman way, but for the overall benefit of her team.

Baptiste - Lawful Good
This man is a protector of his community and hates to see innocent casualties. Disgusted by the brutality of Talon, he became a traitor and was hunted several times. He probably is at the top of reaper’s “to kill list”.

Brigitte - Lawful Neutral
Not aligned to any particular ideology, Brigitte follows in the honorable footsteps of Reinhardt. However she holds some of her fathers distaste towards Omnics.

Lúcio - Chaotic Good
Lúcio gives a voice to the minorities of the world, no matter who they are. However he does hold a hatred to the abusive and probably corrupt Vishkar Corruption and seeks its dismantling.

Mercy - Lawful Good
The guardian angel who leaves no one behind and tries her hardest to keep everyone alive, no matter how extreme. Often, violence is a last resort until she gets valk (run away widow, run away)

Moira - Lawful Evil
Moira is a scientist who tries to exploits the scientific community and laws regarding humane practices. Although her breakthroughs are impressive and not technically against the law, they do end up causing more harm than good in the long run.

Zenyatta - Lawful Neutral
This monk Omnic wishes to be an inspiration and seeks to help others in their time of personal hardships. His travels away from home might have helped broaden his views, however he is unsure if his brethren will welcome him back.

Lawful Good: 7
Neutral Good: 2
Chaotic Good: 5
Total: 14

Lawful Neutral: 6
True Neutral: 2
Chaotic Neutral: 3
Total: 11

Lawful Evil: 1
Neutral Evil: 1
Chaotic Evil: 3
Total: 5

Overwatch does need more lawful evil characters. More corrupted scientists, businessmen, and mercenaries would be a good start. Perhaps some less-desirable people from Vishkar.

If this actually happens and Mei gets a Talon skin, then there’s no redeeming her anymore…she’s now literally a devil.

…Wait, Talon improving the environment?

Its all subjective anyways, im sure most would put Mei as Chaotic Evil lmao.

Ha ha! Yeah, to many she is the Devil but she is my angel =)

Good point though about Mei, my friend, she may be the closest to a Druid that we have in game

I’d put Baptiste down as Chaotic Good. He’s got a strong sense of right and wrong, but would and has done bad things for the right reasons. He’ll do whatever it takes to survive, but his goals are noble.

Also, we know that Roadhog despises the grit and larceny of Junkertown from his comic. He’s not a cold-blooded psychopath, he kills for money. It’s a job, not a hobby. I think he’d hedge more towards Neutral Evil or even Chaotic Neutral, rather than Chaotic Evil.

I’d argue Ashe as lawful neutral actually. The deadlock gang is very rule-centric, just not the rules set by society.

Yeah, I was remembering back to the trailer introducing junkrat and roadhog, how the news anchor was saying how he would kill to get what he wants, and how hog goes right for violence. I did put down that he could be misunderstood. If more lore comes out for hog I will definitely change my stance. Rn I am sort of agnostic for him.

I’m not a psychopath. I’m a HIGH functioning psychopath

But he isn’t, thats the joke xD
He literally matches the definition of a low functioning psychopath and its hilarious.

Aww, he is trying to have a high opinion of himself haha Poor guy, in all truth? I hope he becomes good.

Also, love the post! I never understood the whole chaotic good, neutral this, lawful that, as I couldn’t figure out who goes where?

I’d argue Widowmaker is more a neutral evil, as her evil is the result of brainwashing and she doesn’t really kill people for fun, she just aims to complete the mission.

Characters like her are probably more of a spectrum. Which is good writing. I chose her to be chaotic evil due to her killing to feel alive and how cold hearted she is. When she is not on a mission she is probably just as you said more neutral evil. She is however a victim and is misunderstood to an extent. She is a character who could be redeemed if lets say Mercy reversed Talon/Moira’s tampering.

I’m not sure why you see to equate lawful with following actual laws. I would say that people like Ashe opitomize Lawful Neutral, as she’s extremely rules-focused. But you’ve made her Chaotic because she doesn’t follow actually laws. The same goes for Winston. He’s totally lawful good, but you put him down as Chaotic because he committed a serious legal infraction when he recalled Overwatch. But that’s not “the wrong thing for the right reasons,” the story makes it clear it’s the right thing. Breaking the law doesn’t automatically make one Chaotic in nature.

This is 100% correct. Have my upvote, thank you.

I always interpretted her “killing makes me feel alive” mentality as something that was put into her by the brainwashing, like to make her an effective assassin they had to make her feel like she was enjoying the assassin-ing.

I think basically she’s a puppet, very much like Bucky/Winter Soldier in the Marvel films, who just exists to complete his mission and deep down still has humanity. I’d even say you could put Widow as lawful evil. Interesting points you bring up though.

Its due to the laws representing society as a whole. Society did not want Overwatch so they shut it down. Society does not want a gang of thieves running amok. Winston is chaotic because reviving Overwatch might not be what society as a whole wants. However the list is subjective and I do see your concern on the matter. I just hope this response helped put it more into my perspective on choosing alignments for each character.

I thought Moira’s whole thing was that she was UNLAWFUL like she circumvented the laws and ethics of society and did experimentation in the dark and found others who shared her passion for going past boudaries (like reaper), that’s what it said in her intro at least

She pushed the limits of the laws. Sure she was shut down but Moira is not in jail, nor do we ever see her taken away. Corrupt government officials in power are lawful evil even though they broke laws they still hold power yet they push their evil past the treshhold enough but not to far. She even lives in Iraq, still probably preforming inhuman experiments under laws that might make it ok there.
