- She doesn’t play a part in the main lore.
- She isn’t tied to any other hero’s lore.
- Every cinematic short has a reference or another character from the game, except Dva’s short.
She’s pretty much a standalone character.
So is she just created to sell the game better?
(This is a serious question btw.)

It’s a weird sort of middleground.
For all intents and purposes, yes.
But at the same time they contradict it through her cinematic.

Junkrat, Roadhog, Lucio & Symm have zero relevance to neither the (semi-)central OW vs Talon conflict nor the characters involved in that conflict either.
(No, “Roadhog is story relevant because he’s connected to Junkrat, and Junkrat is because he’s connected to Hog” circular reasoning doesn’t count.)

Welp, junkrat is comic relief, someone needs to be funservice too i guess

Not every character can be a main character. The supporting cast is just as important. She’s the quirky one.

- I was thinking about this as well, but Viskar does play a part in the main lore. Heck, the leader of Viskar was even present at a Talon meeting.
- Symmetra is an employee of them and is tied to Lucio.
- Roadhog and Junkrat could be considered stand alone characters as well, but they have left their mark in other maps such as Dorado, which is canon.
Dva isn’t connected to any other hero in the game nor is she indirectly connected to them. She, and her whole background story as being a defender of Korea, isn’t tied to Overwatch, Talon, Viskar or any other group.
She’s really an out of place character currently.

None of those heroes have the same amount of merchandise though.
Dva is just waifu bait.

Yes but its not just fan service, D.VA’s a cool character in general and i can see why they wanted to add her despite her having no relavancy to the story.
Case on point: fans like her a lot

Also this.
Dva and Mercy has the most merchandise.
They were one of the first ones to get a Nendoroid, a statue and a Figma. Mercy even got a Hasbro toy.
Again, Blizzard is aware of them being popular (due to their design) and are not afraid to exploit this. They are a business after all.

Junk and hog are connected to Hammond and thus Winston, ow, etc. Sym worked for the big bad corporation and that corporation is apart of talon. Lucio is connected to sym, orisa, doomfist.

Well, if you see every gamergirl as fanservice then yes

most heroes are pretty irrelevant to the lore
But I’m bit talking about every single gamergirl. (Why even bring this up?)
I’m talking about Dva as a character and her nonexistent role in the lore. She isn’t tied to anyone’s lore nor does she play a part in main lore. Sure, she has some references because she is a movie star as well (big suprise), but even this is her own thing.
yep, are Roadhog and Junkrat fanservice too because they have no part in main plot ?

But we know she is fighting with her squad for her homeland, it would be kinda hard for her to abandon her country to join the newly formed Overwatch ( which is even illegal )

Pretty sure D.Va was created as bait for the sweaty nerds all looking to get their clammy, greasy mitts on a gamer girl.
Gotta say it’s been working pretty good so far.

She still isn’t connected to the main story, and we only found this out 2 years after the game’s launch.
Before the short, her only piece of lore was even retconned.

then you want her to abandon her home country to fight with Tracer and others ?
What do you mean no relevance to the main lore? She’s part of the military group that fends off omnics made in the omnium beneath the sea, which links her directly to the omnic crisis plot line. Plenty of heroes have nothing to do with Overwatch or major world events (look at Zenyatta, his only relevance is as Genji’s mentor, and Genji’s personal plot isn’t connected to anything else in-universe either).
