is defense matrix something dva has in the lore?
Yes, Defense Matrix exists in the lore but isn’t an automated system like it is for players in-game. Supposedly D.va has to manually target each incoming projectile to destroy it, hence why her in-game voice lines mention the “APM” (actions per minute) involved in using it.
I don’t know why MEKA lacks the technology to automate it, though, when we already have better anti-ballistic targeting systems in the real world. Maybe they were afraid it would too easily to target something friendly by accident, I guess.

Yeah. She used it on the missiles at the beginning of the battle in her cinematic
It would’ve been really good if she tried to defeat the Pacific Rim robot by herself and got swatted like the stupid fly she is

I don’t even think she will be getting much attention in the OW2 lore to begin with (which is why I don’t think I will be in a rush to buy the pve)
Now… who told u this? D.Va will be very present in OW2. She might even be apart of the main story, based on these screenshots. She’s clearly not going to be forgotten about.
She will most likely be the “new generation of overwatch” with pharah.

Also note how in all the scenes she is always on the background or sharing the scene with other filler characters.
Busan was already shown to be a central story location and there was that one person who supposedly saw it on fire in a screening.
I can’t imagine them not using MEKA as a whole going into ow2.

I can’t blame you. They made it so that D.Va wasn’t part of Overwatch or Talon at any point, so she’s essentially a side character.
I think her popularity might drive them to give her a more central role in OW2, either by introducing more MEKA pilots or by having her join Overwatch.

I would be the first one to buy the pve it if there is more d.va in it.
yeah. I am surprised she ever got a cinematic considering she doen’t have any role to the main events in the story yet.
Zen got even less than D.Va over the past couple years and we already know it’s confirmed Zen will be a part of the new story. Her cinematic also sorta reminds me of Rein’s “Honor and Glory” where it shows their battles before they joined Overwatch, which in no way means they won’t be around afterwards (as seen by Rein).
Let’s just see how it plays out.
