D.Va is such a badly designed hero for one simple reason

When you kill D.Va, there should be no ‘de-mech’; she should just die, end of story. This is a change that would benefit players across a wide gamut of skill and rank, and even more so, her teammates.

Every moment a D.Va is running around out of mech is figuratively a moment of self-staggering to herself and to your team because she serves no purpose. The extent of the pressure she can exert in 1 v 1s are re-mechs on squishies, and frankly, it’s easy to dodge when you’re actually ready for it.

The only team fight capability baby D.Va brings to the table is a potential high value re-mech on squishy targets by performing a flank on a completely oblivious team, which happens sometimes, but it shouldn’t be relied upon. Generally, it’s seen as more useful to have your full tank kit (health pool + utility, aka your mech) available. Or, you know, to just have a different tank.

Her being out of mech literally only detracts from your team’s team fight potential/capability and it’s even more of a pronounced problem when you’re solo queueing or in low-coordination ranked play (which isn’t entirely uncommon).

Lastly, it reinforces bad play habits because D.Vas often over-expose themselves to unnecessary amounts of damage since they know that when they get de-mech’d they won’t get sent back to spawn. At that point D.Va becomes nothing more than a warm body desperately attempting to farm ult as fast as they can (which means players expose themslves to risky match ups) while your team is getting steam rolled because they lost 1 of 2 tanks due to feeding.

This game has a problem with trying to force in characters that appeal to very low skill rungs and I believe D.Va is one of those characters that reinforces this trope by having that comfy get out of jail card. In my opinion it’s kind of one of the reasons you see super casual, low skill gamers or girl gamers locking D.Va in every scenario where it makes the least sense (not a viable match up against opfor team comp, defense on payload, etc) whilst simultaneously refusing to swap.

All of that time: the de-mech animation, ejecting, etc, playing as baby dva either to farm mech or get killed directly out of mech, is just wasted. Gut the de-mech’d mechanic and re-work self destruct. Get the player back to character selection and out of the spawn faster. Sheesh. This game is honestly horrible.

Baby D.Va isn’t meant to provide high value to the team so much as it gives her a chance to potentially get back into the fight faster than a respawn if she’s not dealt with.

Also it’s not the de-mech thing that’s getting D.Va players to be more reckless but rather the fact that the entire character kit is designed around being a more offensive and mobile tank.

It’s not really any difference from the Winstons who dive in and immediately die.

If you never get kills out of mech and never get your mech back before dying you’re probably playing d.va wrong dude

dva is a dumb hero in general, i hope she gets hit with a sledgehammer of nerfs.

The only bad design that d.va has is having her huge critboix exposed while getting in range to deal dmg with the basic attack.

Okay, but you didn’t actually kill Dva. That’s why she didn’t die. She has 150 health left.

what…dva is one of the best designed heroes in the game. she has a specific niche that she fills well while also being able to flex into alot of playstyles, she scales really well with skill and has decent play in early and late fights, shes s tier but never feels oppressive when playing within your skill level
she is really strong but that is solely because of her versatility just like ana and tracer. The demech mechanic gives her the opportunity to make a high risk sacrifice play and allows for unique aggression with bomb remechs
