D'va buff ideas

D’va is going to need buffs. I don’t think she is particularly strong in current Overwatch but as the Devs stats have already shown D’va is absymally weak in OW2 with a 43.8% win-rate.

Defense matrix rework:
Max. range:
10 meters → 12meters
Duration:
0.5 seconds min. → Removed
2 seconds max. → Increased to 2.5 seconds
Cooldown:1 second → Removed

DM CD and minimum duration have been removed. D’va is now free to flicker how DM as much as she wants.

However, upon activation DM reduces incoming damage instead of completlg destroying them for the first 0.3 seconds. Every 0.1 second reduces the incoming damage by 33%, until it reaches 100% where projectiles/damage are just destroyed like current DM.

This means that if a D’va flickered her DM for 0.2 seconds to destroy a helix rocket from soldier. The helix rocket would not be destroyed but instead deal 66% less damage. After 0.3 seconds of activation time, everything is destroyed like normal.

Note: The removal of the CD and minimum usage duration of 0.5 seconds allows D’va to be very efficient with her DM usage, however the 0.3 second delay before fully being able to delete damage means she can’t simply flickering her DM for infinite value.

DM now has 2 modes: Projection and Protection
Projection is DM current mode, with the 12m range.
Protection DM range is reduced from 12m to 3m, however it is much wider and slightly wraps around D’va.

The 2 modes can be cycled through by clicking LMB while using DM.

Move speed:
-40% [penalty], except when using booster is now applied gradually over 2 seconds upon shooting.

I think it would be fun if the micro-missiles had some mild homing based on where your crosshair is pointed.

This does nothing to fix dva. she needs damage. if you are going to tune every dps to keep her at range and poke her out indefinitely her getting on them should be near a guaranteed kill

My ideas that might be kind of what you suggest:

  • buff the DM range to 15m
  • reduce the critical damage taken by 50%
  • remove the move speed penalty while gunning
  • better falloff of the guns
  • add tracking to the missiles
  • reduce the thruster cooldown to 3 seconds
  • let baby Dva generate 10% ult per second (otherwise the passive itself is a nerf in 5v5)

What do we implement of them? Everything because otherwise Dva is worse than Roadhog.

DvaDiff had this idea where the “windshield” on the D.va mecha was actually a barrier.

Where you had to break it before you could do crits.

Did I hear a Rock and Stone?

That might be good but to difficult to implement I would think.

I was thinking just change all the whitehealth into shieldhealth. And have that operate as the “windshield” health pool.

Which also would have the effect of giving D.va a bit more passive selfsustain, and greater value from picking up healthpacks.

Let D.va jetpack thing do burn damage like ashe’s dynamite

I don’t know that damage is enough as it’s so easy to catch her out. The problem with Dva is she flies in and is stuck without the benefit of a Winston bubble or CC like Doom.

I think if they lowered her flight cooldown, increased her flight uptime and improved the boop potential from her booster, that would be a good place to start. Outside of that, I don’t know. It feels like Blizzard is hesitant to touch DM as it’s such a strong ability.

Let’s not even pretend her crit box isn’t absolutely insane, even for a tank:

Plus it sits right in the middle of her bodyshot hurtbox, meaning you can miss a crit and 100% of the time land a bodyshot, while this isn’t uncommon on tanks, it is overdone with Dva.

Cough*
DmonDiff did which was likely due to an old greentrotsky post from a while back lol

I seriously believe that if micro missiles had tracking her whole kit would function so much better.
Missiles indicate tracking anyway so just add it to them. Let’s her have ranged poke and consistent damage outside of point blank.

Tacking on MM and 15 meter dm with 0.5 second cooldown would honestly be what I’d do.

I think they should try DM eating EVERYTHING.

Hook. Rock. Immo. Nano? Beams.

At least enemy damaging abilities.

And she needs to be able to RELIABLY boost, missiles, fire AND matrix at the same time. All four.

AND… i think she should be able to booster strafe. instead of just forwards, she should be able to hold A or D and then boost to the sides. For MAXIMUM agility.

But all those together might be a bit spicy.

Well the simplest fix they could do there is just shrink the “head hitbox” to be the size of her actual head.

Yes. I’m guessing that’s coming. It’s ridiculous that Overwatch wants to move towards shooty shooty but still has these abnormalities.

It’s not that strange when you look at Hog and realize they just haven’t done much to make former offtanks into main tanks.

Zarya was just lucky that she fits well with the OW2 style.

I don’t mean just the tanks, hitboxes in general are quite insane, always have been.

zero movement acceleration. It has to be this way.

Not to this extent. We have reduced hitboxes before for Genji, Winston, Rein, Hog… And also Torb, I think?

Dva needs it as well.

I believe only head hitboxes has ever been reduced. Never has an overall hitbox been reduced to be more in-line with the visual character model.

That might be what you are talking about though.

The thing with D’va is that I am willing to bet that she actually doesn’t get headshot more often or at least not significantly more than the other tanks. Which is why the devs have probably never reduced its size. They look at the stats and say its fine.

I say this because the way Dva’s head hitbox is oriented is that from the front it is incredibly easy to land but from the sides and the back, it is near impossible. So once again, compared to the likes of Orisa, Hog, Rein etc. She probably gets headshotted less often.

That is just my theory why the devs have never reduced its size.
