A cyborg ninja that summons a spirit dragon by taking out a sword and also has a troubled past with his older brother who can also summon dragons, that has a typical anime brother feud written all over it…and you think mercy and dva are overrated and are giant gimmicks?

People overexaggerate Baptiste’s lack of personality. Still more interesting than Pharah and Zarya. The only difference is Bap is a post release hero so people don’t have their nostalgia goggles on when they think about him.

Oooh! Ooh! Oooh! I can play this game too! I think Doomfist, Genji, and McCree are very overrated! Same with Hog/Ball comps! And CC/cancer comps! So gimmicky! Also, what’s up with beam comps, i.e., Zarya, Moira, Mercy, Symmetra, and Echo (and why is Echo always copying me)?
Also, you’re wrong, OP! I love D.Va and Mercy! They’re my top two most-played heroes, since their gimmick is being fun and Mercy mains comprise a significant chunk of my BNet friend list (~20-25%), probably because their gimmick is being awesome!

Kind of yes but kind of no.
Hard agree on Dva. We’ve seen so little of her true personality, just that ridiculous over-the-top fake cutsie gamer girl persona she uses for her publicity. Everything she says sounds obnoxious and fake. The only time she was remotely likeable was in her Meka animated short, but even then…
And Mercy comes off as a Karen-like bicchy middle-aged woman at only 37yo. She’s so severe all the time, reminds me of an old bat of a grade school teacher I had one year, it’s like she just saps the fun out of a room just by walking in, like you know she’s gonna immediately complain about something.
Even if they are not as interesting their personality is still clearly defined.
Baptiste on the other hand suffers from identity crisis. They gave him some heal related sarcastic lines and that is it. Something which mercy already has + she is already defined as kind and non violent person. What is Baptiste’s defining feature? Just throwing bad puns?
I enjoy playing both of the characters primarily because I like being mobile and flying.
It’s the same reason I like Pharah and Echo.
I suppose D.Va certainly is overrated, now that her voice actress has turned out to be an NFT shill

Well if Im gonna be honest, I dont know if the OP was reflecting on their ingame abilities, but their actual personalities, in which case its nothing better or worse than anybody else in the game, because blizzard is just awful at writing anything substantial.
My dream is that Mercy has the same amount of personality as the TF2 medic one day (since shes a copy + paste of him)
