"Due to an impending Scheduled Maintenance, the game will shut down in 00:30. Your SR will not be adjusted."

How difficult would this sort of “soft-boot” feature be to implement?
My idea is as follows:

  • Roughly 30 minutes before scheduled Maintenance occurs, all Competitive games should be shut down identically to how a Competitive match ends if a player disconnects at Hero Assembly or within the first 2(ish?) minutes of timed play.
  • SR will not be adjusted for cancelled games due to impending Maintenance or unannounced shutdown.
  • Stats will either be discarded upon game shutdown, or stats will not be rolled back in an effort to discourage troll picks. I don’t know which option is better because you shouldn’t be trying to play Competitive before maintenance. We all know how some gamers are, though.
  • Big red warning pop-up UI message to be displayed within 2 hours of maintenance time, warning players that their in-progress Competitive matches may be cancelled due to Scheduled Maintenance. This message will appear when attempting to queue for Competitive Play, obviously.
  • Players must confirm via controller or mouse input that they wish to queue after being presented with this UI messasge. This is an effort to slim down the inevitable “my comp match was cancelled!” threads and keep the Forums tidy.
  • That’s about it.

I can ring this bell to stay notified of this awesome idea.

An Overwatch developer already addressed this. They said the system is designed to cut off matchmaking at a certain time close to the scheduled maintenance, and all games already underway at that time are allowed to finish before the maintenance starts.

If you get a disconnect mid-game close to a maintenance, it’s a coincidence.

Now this is an idea I can get behind…

That said, as DapperDino already mentioned, matchmaking is already cut off at a time close to the scheduled maintenance, with all games already underway allowed to finish before maintenance.

Instead they changed it to just kick players as their team gets into a match

Heck, DarkTide was having server issues.

And they put a big notification about it right on the Launcher.
