Or rather, create an alternative 1-2-3 role lock instead (which can exist simultaneously with 2-2-2).
It is pretty much the only decent option to 2-2-2 anyway, even though it is not as good.

There has never been a multi-dps meta, just multi-dps throwing.
go play qp classic if you want to multi-dps throw, or play another game.
dps just need to work with the team, instead of thinking they’re actually good and can 1v6

Goats has been the meta for the higher tier matches, of which 3+ dps does nothing. Bunker has slowly been making it’s way in.
multi-dps has never been a meta (you know, most effective tactic?) and never will be, no matter how much or how hard dps players whine it has been.

It’s called “patch up” meta: whoever is lacking, team picks additional hero for that role.
It’s probably been longest meta in history of Overwatch.
