Buff base kit, leave ult as is. Probably the last 2 years genji has been a blade farming bot, because his base kit is USELESS, and his ult requires to be paired with nano to get any effect.
His ult isn’t the problem, buff his base kit, or rework the extreme amount of CC in the game to be less of a stonewall to heroes who operate in closer ranges, of which Genji is one of those, even while individually well balanced he remains the trashcan cybutt-ningen because the entire game evolved to counter Genji specifically, the hardest most countered hero in the entire roster.
You don’t buff what is already good, and leave the trashed portion alone.
Just like you don’t ask for buffs to sombras hack as that isn’t her problem area, as we have well documented history for, balancing a hero into a SINGLE INTERACTION just ends up as aids to play with as and against, and they get nerfed into obscurity pending an idea to make them not a trash addition to the game. Just as all-inning sombra into hack effect was a trash idea, so too is all-inning Genji into Dblade.
??? The nerfing of shields hurts genji heaps. Now he can’t sit safe from snipers while charging blade xD That’s just… it doesn’t work like that. He also doesn’t have enemies relying on sitting behind a shield making his swiftstrike worse as it tags less per and resets won’t matter as much as they do now as your reset is going to be used scrambling for cover, not as a way back through the enemy team for another potential reset to chain. It’s just not a genji buff.
I don’t like the idea of him deflecting beams… but to say that would make him have no counters?
Hello, crowd control exists, everything has more damage than genji does in his role, and they can do that at range while genji has to stick his nose behind enemy cheeks to do anything. Genji exists as the countered. If he could deflect beams it wouldn’t be that much of a problem, he would certainly still be the single most countered hero in the game, a far cry from “No counters”.
I think it’s ok to just keep some heroes in the game for fun. Soldier 76 and genji have terrible damage but are seen as fun to play so I think it’s fine that they can be left as sort of ‘quick play exclusive’ heroes.
No. One of the main thing that counters him is the efficiency of other DPS rendering him entirely obsolete outside of 7 seconds per 100% charge, and the main thing that stops him the biggest counter he has, is the obverabundance of CC in the game stopping him from going into effective range EVER. Beams don’t even have to be present and genji is dead content so it should be obvious that they aren’t a problem for him, had the enemy played beam heroes you STILL wouldn’t swap off genji. But if the enemy has 3+ forms of CC (which most team comps have at least 3) you WOULD swap off genji because he is the trash in that scenario. Beams don’t counter him, he just can’t deflect them, VERY big difference.
What you are stating is definitely not a fact but a personal opinion. I think I know who my main counters and why. Since launch Genji has always been countered by beam heroes. Why do you think Genji players always complain about Moira’s Primary Fire?
Mmmmmm, but when I play genji… I never swap vs beam heroes, they’re not threats. I’ll go punch a beam hero in the face, but I won’t go NEAR a hero with CC. One’s a counter, one just can’t be deflected. They’re DIFFERENT.
And Genjis that complain about moiras primary fire are big bad at the game. She does 50DPS. If you can’t out do that, you shouldn’t be playing genji period, let alone be complaining. Considering the forums is mostly plat and below it’s no surprise that people suck at the game and perceive things that aren’t OP as way too powerful.
Just because a certain interaction has a hero based use doesn’t make them a counter. It just makes it so in this specific case, that genjis deflect is useless vs you, at best you could say beams counter “Deflect”. But you’re stretching that to the extreme saying “Beams counter Genji”.
I think a fair buff to dragon blade would be this.
un-damage boosted, 1 dash and a strike should total 200hp.
this makes it easier to deal with squishes without investing nano ( Yes i know u can get a mercy/drum combo)
But this won’t really give any difference to attacking tanks or 250hp targets, as the amount of strikes will still be the same on targets +200hp.
also u wont get the 1 shot combo off if the target receives Armour pack or has the effect of aoe healing.
and being nano boosted will essentially be the same as current nano blade .
I think this will be a fair balanced buff, as pulling off ghost dashes or combos does require some skill alone for such a high risk high reward ult, and with the current state of cc and aoe healing with time to kill being as it is, this will help get a bit more value out of his ult solo.
i mean moira is his biggest counter she has a beam not cc. I am not saying beams counter him because they dont to an extent. Zarya doesnt counter genji, syms primary does not counter genji. the beams that do counter genji are moiras and mei. I feel like thats the case because the relatively do alot.

Proplayers reloaded put up a video of him playing on Havana, water was only ever able to do anything with nanoblade, outside of that he was scraping by on the skin of his buttcheeks, not even world class players can make genji look good, it’s quite literally gotten that bad for him >.>
like genji needs so much input ( I am gonna get flammed for saying this, he need much more skill) than most heroes and his reward is so lil.

I agree with the idea that we shouldn’t buff Blade, but I heavily disagree with the idea that we should nerf it in order to buff his basic kit.
Genji is so UP right now that it is perfectly possible to buff his base kit without any compensation nerfs and still make him very fair and balanced. He needs only buffs, no nerfs (though as stated I think these buffs shouldn’t be focused on his ult).

Like that game with water (He was a rank 1 Genji onetrick on korean servers) he straight up got carried by his team, and could not do anything but feed outside of D-blade… if he can’t… (he’s flat out better than necros) then I have no hope. Genji requires so much from the player (YEAH I SAID IT, SKILL, he requires MORE SKILL than most heroes to get any effect), and even when maximized… he’s still bad. And it’s not even meta related, he’s just bad in overwatch period ;-;
I suggested before a set of buffs for him I got some of the most typical genji hate/ “I know balance but dont care” response got my hopes up for genji (the hero is doomed to be like this forever)
