I don’t think I could convince you given any amount of evidence, so I guess you are resigned to a defeatist attitude.
OW still offers me something other team shooters don’t, maybe preferring the support heros makes me an outlier. But the class based nature of OW and how important both healers and tanks is what really appeals to me, personally.
And I just am not getting that in other games, if I go Lifeline in that other game I’m just a DPS with shield to help my revive, but otherwise I play the same as I would on DPS. In OW, it’s different, and that’s why I like it. If you don’t like it because it’s not DPS focused I won’t be able to change your mind.
I will change my mind if you can provide evidence. Go ahead, we shall see. I am pretty convinced such a thing does not exist, but I would love to be proven wrong because I am bored of always being right.
No, I am glad the game is not DPS focused. That is why I play it, myself. It is so unique and nothing compares… except for Paladins, I guess. Funny story, I main support in that game.
Asking not to have 30 minute queue times dumped on me for my role preference is not the same as keeping the game DPS focused. I wanted Symmetra and Torbjorn to be reworked more into their original support vision. I wanted Hog to drop the hook combo in exchange for making him a real tank. I wanted Doomfist to stay as a tank too, and even would not mind if Mei transitioned to tank. I am down with it. Just let me click heads with Widow without needing to sell my soul for the privilege to play the game. That is utterly stupid.
The thing is it’s just my experience, the game tends to be more fun with balanced team comps, using LFG in QP (I hate doing it in comp) tends to be dramaticly more fun than getting stuck in weird teams that don’t have a good comp.
But it’s also more fun to play against balanced teams winning against a 5 or 6 DPS team always kind of takes the wind out of my sails, it doesn’t feel like a real victory.
My own personal experience is not empirical evidence and I would be foolish trying to use it as such.
Such a good post, I agree with it.
Do not get me wrong, I agree. Triple DPS is my favorite with solo tank, double main heal. But I do not ever expect that. It is just my personal favorite.
I assume we are talking about comp (sorry for my ignorance)
But until comp actually means something meaningful other than getting a gold weapon for just competing l don’t see role que as a necessity.
There just isn’t enough insensitive for people to change with the way comp runs right now.
no your not
we are on internet, proof it or your exposed as lier.
Insert obligatory “queue times are already obnoxiously long, snek snek game is ded” joke here.
I do feel like there are a number of players who would like to play tank or support but don’t think it’s worth it if the comp is bad. I HATE playing tanks if I can’t get a main healer on my team, and I get really frustrated playing heals if we have no main tank.
This is not going to fix DPS queue times, but might help as you will have less people saying, why should I bother playing X role if Y role is not filled, I’ll just have fun and play DPS.
I think it will definitely encourage SOME dps players to at least TRY to master other roles, as they can be clutch play-makers
They should remove gold weapons from comp, I don’t care how mad people get, it would make comp better.
New ones who want to play the game as a team will come.
In this case, you’re going to have to take me at my word since the data I was privy to is protected. While I had access to it I was inside the company trading window (my NDA has since expired, but I can’t remember exact numbers anyway. I left that company 3 years ago).
Most players that stop playing a game, never come back. It’s why a bad release, like what Anthem is going through, is devastating.
I agree. I think people will flock back when they hear about a role queue
Role Queue is a nice idea on paper but the main issue lies within the OW community and the way that they interpret data from the “in-game medals stats”.
Let us approach this issue using a little bit of a devil’s advocate scenario.
A tank main queue as tank and loses 2 games in a row that took him 1-2 mins to get into. The tank main gets frustrated because he constantly has gold elims and damage. Instead of selecting tank for his 3rd game, he selects dps since he believes that he would be able to carry his team. The tank main stays in queue for 15 mins and ends up losing again in a 6 minutes match. Was the queue time worth it?
The point of this is that most of the OW community is under the impression that medals are everything since OW does not provide a better understanding of what is happening across the board with a real stats screen. Also, people should not and will not wait for a queue time that takes longer than the match itself. The goal of a player is to play as much as possible in less amount of time. If that is converted into OW language… it will look something like this:
More games = Fast queue + Short matches = Potential SR gain
Another issue with role queue is that you would have to divide each role into subcategories in order to get the desired team comp. For example, a support slot could mean primary healer, secondary healer, main support, or flex support. The game currently does not divide these subcategories which means that you could get two secondary healer players or simply two supports that 1 trick the same hero.
With that being said, role queue is far more complex than what people think it is.
This is what I don’t get. Jeff comes from WoW and is more than well aware that people in large numbers prefer the dps role. Where the balance is around 1tank/3dps/1healer a dps player can wait in queue for 30min+.
So he takes that knowledge and decides to try and balance Overwatch around a 2/2/2 holy trinity? And surprise surprise what happens? Mass amount of games where people refuse to flex, people refuse to fill tank or healer roles, etc etc.
I personally wouldn’t care if I’d have a long queue time, I never play as DPS in comp because usually everyone and their mom instalock DPS, they’re just lucky I don’t mind healing or tanking, but it’d be nice to be able to queue up as DPS get to play DPS and still have supports and Tanks on my team.
in comp I always fill which 9 times outa 10 leads to me being Moira, DVA or Zarya, but on rare occasions the tank and healer roles are taken and I get to DPS and I do a decent job at it, I’d like to be able to do it more regularly. I want to main Sombra next season and I just might have to be one of those instalockers to do it, but gosh darnit I really want to play Sombra
I like the idea for an arcade mode, but not for comp.
