DPS refuse to shoot supports. What can I do myself as tank?

I’ve just been losing game after game after game. The DPS in Gold absolutely will do nothing about the enemy supports, Life Weaver and Mercy specifically. What can I do by myself on tank? There’s no help from them so I need advice/tips on what I can do on tank. I’ve tried diving with Ball or Winston and that just leads to me being focused and feeding.

Games where the enemy plays Orisa or Hog feel like absolute hell. Every game where there’s an enemy Life Weaver it’ll be 1, MAYBE 2 deaths in the entire game. The frustration of solo tank and DPS who can’t hit anything smaller than a house is making me want to rip my eyes out.

How abour you shoot the supports yourself

Should I go Mauga, charge into the backline, use overdrive and start shooting them? Cause Ball and Winston I get focused fired to death.

Hog. Go behinf them and get them all. Do not rely on your team

I call those kind of DPS the “gentleman DPS” who are too nice and polite to shoot at Mercy. It does not get much better the higher you climb tbh  I have seen DPS in Diamond shooting a Doom who is blocking instead of a Mercy.

Against Orisa, it’s not too bad. LW + Mercy don’t have the sort of tank sustain that Juno/Ana + anything has. Go Zarya, proceed to melt any DPS that are foolish enough to stand within 15m of you. Melt the supports if you get a chance. But generally, you will whittle down Orisa’s cooldowns and force a Grip or outright death, allowing you to move up and take space.

Against a Hog in that situation, it’s tougher because he is not going to die unless your team has an Ana. You can try Zarya again and deny his bubbles but if your team doesn’t back you up, well, yeah.

The drawback to going Zarya against LW - that he has two abilities to mess up Grav, plus tree if needed - isn’t such a dealbreaker when Zarya has DPS who can’t be trusted to combo with her anyway.

Be a backline tank, justifying that you’re there to defend against flanks.

Go mauga and shoot the tank

wow, i wish i went up against your team…in my games…its just a whole game of dodging bullets

Keep practicing with all the tanks and you’ll eventually find one that meshes with your play style… you’ll know because with that tank you’ll frag more efficiently compared to the others and it’ll just ‘feel right’.

Once you hit that point, you can start taking matters into your own hands in a lot of matches, which is sort of what you need to do in OW2 since you’re one person filling a role that used to have two players.

And that’s not taking away from DPS or support, they still have their job to do and there are a lot of good players in each of those roles, but you’re the tank… the tip of the spear… you gotta lay down some fire and get at least one enemy to one shot and let the DPS finish the job while you keep pushing forward.

One thing to keep in mind is that while LW and Mercy exists, they provide next to no offensive power. If your team can out damage the enemy heals, you can brute force through the enemy support healing.

However, you have to recognize when your team is built to say out DPS the enemy team. If you have a reaper, Mei, then you are 100% set-up to try to bully the enemy tank and prevent him from making space.

If your team is lighter on DPS output, then you need to figure out how to target the supports or DPS and hope your team can ignore the enemy tank. LW you can punish more easily than Mercy as say Winston. Charging in the backline as Mauga is not the answer. Winston is less error prone, but you still have to play him well. The enemy team can’t look back at you 100% and blow you up and keep attention on your team as well. SO you have to play a little more patiently as Winston, but it’ll depend. If there is a Bastion, Torbjorn backline, trying to force Winston into that will be very tough.

Its hard to cover every scenario in a single post. You’d hvae to look at the game and segment of the map and teams you have to really say.

Go monke or sigma and block off healing towards enemy tank. If enemy healing can’t be blocked, then it’s not going to be a lot of healing and you can just shoot the tank as well and win the attrition with any tank that’s not horrible against tanks (rein and monke are tanks that are bad against tanks, ball is also not great)
