Does anyone else feel like the estimated queue time for dps is overestimated by a lot? It frequently says >10 min while support and tank are <2 min. However, I have never had a queue time for DPS above 5 minutes. Anyone else have the same experience?
Same. My DPS time is also pretty low. If I double queue as a DPS and Support for most of the time I will have to play Support. But when I just queue as DPS, the longest time it takes is 6 minute. While the shortest is 1 second.
They’re bugged. My Support also is ALWAYS >10 (more than DPS) but it never has taken more than 2 minutes to find a match.
Not just dps, all the queue times seem to be overestimated by about double.
If it says 6 minutes, I’ll find a match in 2-4 minutes, if it say 10 minutes, I’ll find a match in 4-6 minutes.
I think I’ve had one match in the entire beta that was a 4min estimate but a 4 and a half minute queue, all of the others have been drastically under.
I mean, on the one hand, it’s better to overestimate than underestimate (people will get mad and likely leave the queue if actual wait exceeds estimated wait) but even so it seems to really overestimate by a lot, probably too much.
One thing that is important to clarify is that if you first immediately log onto the game and immediately enter the Role Select screen within a few seconds, the queue times will be inaccurate. This is because in the first 30 seconds after logging into the game, the client is pinging each of the different servers in order to find you the fastest servers to connect to. Until it knows which servers you will be connecting to, it can’t accurately estimate queue times.
That being said, queue times can be somewhat inaccurate for other reasons involving the matchmaker itself.
I have the opposite effect. They are longer than the “estimate” claims.
Same here. Sometimes up to double or triple the time listed. And thats not just on DPS. I’ve seen it a decent amount on support as well. And a few times on tank.
It just depends on the time and day. But my queue times are almost always longer than the estimated number.
This happens to me, but I know it’s not the same issue I’m talking about in my post. When I first log on, all queue times are less displayed as <10 which is the thing you are referring to, but as is loads up the support and tank times will drop and the dps does not.
Hm. You’re both on console (not the same console type though).
I wonder if that’s a general console/PC difference.
That very well could be. I don’t play on PC, so I can’t really comment on their experience. I can only talk about my own
All of us that commented that queue times are shorter than estimated are PC players.
It’s consistent so far, but only 5 people have commented, so… yeah.
Blizzard queue times have been inaccurate across all their games. They’ve been inaccurate in WoW for many years, and have never been accurate in HoTS, either.
That’s very interesting. I play on PC and I’ve been getting overestimated times. I think that I’ve only had to wait more than 4 minutes once.
Is it possible that this is not only rank dependent, but also platform dependent?
No it’s not. I play mostly on console as both tank and support, and 90% of the times I don’t have to wait one full minute. In 30-40 seconds max I find a match.
I have not been playing DPS in Comp though, so I don’t know how much they are waiting in practice. Maybe DPS waiting times on console are worse; I don’t really know.
However, something tells me the anti 2-2-2 crowd is purposefully exaggerating their waiting time. Either that, or they are not telling us the entire picture.
For example, maybe they were trying to find a match in a weird time of the day, maybe they are Masters-GM and are used to wait many minutes to find a match anyway, maybe they are not waiting that much most of the times but selectively choose to mention the single time they had to wait more than 15 min.
Either way, it’s weird. How come both Blizz and tanks/supports in general have completely different experiences compared to the DPS anti 2-2-2 crowd?
My waiting times were around 9 minutes on average. At worst they were 17 minutes.
Every game my 2 stack found were <2 minutes.
Depends on when you play. If I am playing at prime time for my region (6-10pm) I usually get in quicker than the estimate.
If I am playing late night (not a morning person, I am sure that would be even worse!) I can often get OVER the estimate and wait 10 minutes or more each time.
I’m NA East, a very popular region, but less populated regions suffer from this way more from what I’ve heard.
At most, my DPS queues were 15 min. They overestimate all role times on purpose just to give that happy feeling of getting a short queue.
However, there are some people with “30 min. DPS queues every time”.
Doesn’t mean they are lying. As I mentioned above there’s many factors.
People in higher skill tiers are certainly getting that. You can check YouTube/Twitch to verify if you care to. I haven’t seen it personally, but I believe the people in regions like OCE getting similar queue times as well.
