Dps players how are you not sad 24/7?

I’ve started playing dps in quick play after a life of healing and tanking. Specifically been playing Sombra, Mei, and McCree. I’m not half bad at them but a lot of games so far have been a constant stream of “idk what our dps were doing”, “are your dps throwing”, and other such phrases meant to rile me up. I’m trying not to let these comments get to me because I’m having so much fun playing these heroes! But I can’t help but dread the next game and when I eventually take my dpsing into competitive. So, any advice for the future? Words of wisdom? Do you just mute chat to save yourself from these comments or do you deal with them a different way?

There are just as many games of DPS complaining “Where are my heals?”

You’re just new. After all, you said you have been playing support/tank for very long. Just play, enjoy and you will get better. It’s just qp. I’d rather have people learn stuff in qp rather than comp.

Because maybe we moved on to play something else worth our time

If you can’t aim, go play vs AI or Ana bots for a while. It won’t really help with movement predictions, but you can get used to some of the different character models and basic tracking/flicks

I just leave all comms unless I’m six stacking anyway. For reasons unrelated to the thread but yeah.

There is no reason to ever have chat enabled because nobody ever says anything of value in it. It’s just a salt dispensary.

Wise man once said:

“Don’t play dps in competitive if you don’t enjoy depression”

DPS are supposed to be getting the kills, if you’re not doing that then you’re going to get toxic teammates. Sure it’s not okay to be toxic, but they atleast have a reason. It goes both ways. DPS complain about getting no heals, and everyone else complains about DPS getting no kills.

DPS can still be fun even if losing in competitive.

Tank/Support is the most depressive thing ever when loosing.

I don’t normally get that criticism. Maybe it’s just you?

My main problems with DPS:

  • A) I’m a tank and I haven’t seen my DPS in 7 minutes because they are flanking and expect the healers and tanks to push by themselves.
  • B) I’m a tank, I have gold kills, gold damage. gold objective time, and I still haven’t seen my DPS in 7 minutes.
  • C) It’s been 7 minutes and technically I have gold kills, but gold is 2, and we have 3 DPS.

One of the above scenarios, and then the DPS complains they weren’t getting enough healing/shielding. Or most ironically they complain that there wasn’t enough kills.

I do hear this from time to time but when I do it’s usually because the tanks and healers are pushing the enemy back but for some reason the kill feed is empty.

These kind of no kill pushes only last so long and a good tank and healer knows that Ults will be soon to follow and if dps aren’t confirming kills ain’t no way they can counter or even react to them properly.

Also, I find dps to be the least vocal so half the time it’s literally a question of “What the hell are the dps doing?”

That aside, Toxic behavior is not limited to any roles. Everyones a target for scapegoating

Found your problem.

And no, that’s not even sarcasm.

They can just fall back on the npc meme now.

There really isn’t i’ve been on both sides and dps get it much worse.

Yeah…

McCree is a skill pick. Literally hit or miss.

Mei and Sombra are experience picks, and they are lower damage output so they need to pair with a DPS that doesn’t flank and deals strong reliable damage.

I suggest watching Spumwack’s YouTube video:
“SWAP DPS - aka ‘dps can’t kill anything’ aka ‘get off dps’ aka ‘dps sucks’ blizzard overwatch game”
It’s pretty funny and shows how absurd statements like this really are.

Soooooo…
“Don’t play McCree because he requires skill”

?

Play McCree, but if by a certain point in the match you aren’t bringing in the kills, switch to something easier.

He’s essentially running around with a semi auto sniper rifle.

If they say that to me, I’ll tell them, “I’m not receiving heals when I need it” or “Who would you like me to play then” and play with the team.

Sometimes, they’re just being pissy and toxic. Can’t do anything about that but brush it off.

Other times, I’ll communicate what I need in a respectful manner. I’ll say, “I’ll let you know when I dive in or when I’m jumping on someone, can you focus heals on me when I do that?”
