DPS passive isn't nearly as bad on tank as I thought

I blow up when I mess up my positioning yeah, but I should. Overwatch became way too forgiving with giga-supports the last year. Im really really starting to enjoy this season.

Too bad most of the tank playerbase doesn’t know how to position

At least the ones I play with…

That means the other tank doesn’t either (depending on your rank).

Classic 1-1

But ppl got very lax. Im just now getting backed into ranked on my main account and players that used to be very very good are having a bit of a hard time adjusting so far.

That’ll probably fix itself in a week or so though.

I mean, that’s just kind of how it works? Some people are better at the game than others. Except now those mistakes get punished a little harder and so the difference between a player who understands these concepts and doesn’t is more stark.

Most of the player base in general.

I’ve been yelled at in chat for taking cover so I could get rid of dps debuff.
DPS and supports just want you to stand in choke 24/7 to protect them.

I like the way that in-combat healing from certain supports has been nerfed for sure. I just wish they’d not done it in a way that causes a bunch of collateral damage, like slamming inoffensive/ultimate healing, self-healing tanks, etc. Plus the annoyance of having no indication as to whether the debuff’s active. Is it surprising that people who don’t read patch notes don’t know about the very existence of the debuff?

If I see one more “tank doesn’t push, GG” in chat I’m going to burst a blood vessel. :anger:

Hoping it will fix itself. I’ve seen a big discrepancy in the matches I’ve played with players who know about the patch notes, and players that don’t. I wish there was somewhere that players could access the patch notes in the game.

Youre likely referring to DPS/Support players who qued flex and got tank because theres very few actual tank players left

When my packs run out and my tank is critical, I try to protect them with my tiny shield. I don’t know if it works.

That is precisely why less and less people will play tanks, that game play loop is boring, tanks are tanks and should be able to get away with poor positioning at least for a time…

Good tank positioning is poor dps positioning. Tanks do get away with poorer positioning in a way. Its just different styles of positioning that other roles can’t do because they can’t tank any damage at all.

Thats what I think anyway. Face tanking 24/7 isnt fun either lol.

The issue is that “bad positioning” sometimes just equals “I peeked when I had to”.

I sincerely wish tanks didn’t routinely get accused of being bad for not liking the patch or how fast tanks die. Is this community allergic to tank players or something? Most seem to be doing everything in their power to get rid of us.

Maybe the playerbase shouldnt be celebrating the changes that has so negatively impacted, nor berate, the role that has become the bottleneck for their queue times.

Just a suggestion.

Then that was a good play from the enemy team, a slip up from your team. In general though, I like how tank feels this season more than the last I played.

I think you’ll adjust to it after some time. Its not just like brainless int and pray you have better supports or GG anymore. Dive in general is more meta and supps don’t have the same impact so its a bit of a shake up.

No question, but I want to point out something here:

Peeking isn’t a slip up, you literally have to do it. And if the tank can’t peek to check if the coast is clear, the game isn’t balanced right. Non tank players will disagree, but non tank players have historically hated to go up against tanks who can do their job.

It was never just brainless int and play. Tanks never played brainlessly, and this is what I don’t understand about you guys; you seem to actively hate tanks heroes, hate tank players, and generally dislike the entire play style. You’re the last person I’d trust to hear about tank balance.

Been quite some time but I’ve played OW again this past week- not perfect by any means but I’ve actually had fun, so these changes are a net positive for me; For DPS and especially for tank. The fact that I can play Winston…consistently and if my approach stays clean- I’m rewarded! What a concept!

A far cry from the months of playing nigh on perfectly and having virtually no impact and 0 room for error and getting dunked on by broken supports. I find the path they took to get here odd- but CLEARLY nerfing support power levels be it direct or indirectly (this patch) is what they simply had to do for the longest time.

Im a tank main lol. I love Tank. Infact, most tank players love the role more than dps or supp players like their role (why else would we play it).

The last season I played on tank was miserable. Every game was just which supps win and it felt like I just didn’t matter at all because no one ever died to me and I couldn’t punish anyone’s mistakes. (ofc thats an exaggeration not every game was like that)

Yes, but if you have to peak so long and so wide long enough to die thats a mistake. I can still walk easily enough on Zarya/Dva/Ram, or whoever else I decide to play. I just can’t walk forward into their team and expect to not die at all. If I over extend and mess up my cooldown usage then I die for it. Some people may not enjoy getting punished/other getting punished but I like it.

It remind me of old tank comps in OW 1 in a way. If you missed your pull hook you lose he fight GG. If you bubble your rein too early you get walked on and die GG. If you mess up your dive on their supports yours get counter doven and its GG.

I feel like it has more of an OW 1 tempo.

tbf its not just tank players, the dps and supports have bad positioning as well. people just dont focus them as much so they arnt being punished nearly as often

the good in this is that you can more easily punish the enemy teams positioning now, downside they can do the same to your team.

sadly its going to take alot longer then that

people are going to derank until they can figure out how to stop feeding. its like the season 1 patch

supports complained about how weak they were but then we come to find they were broken and were just complaining for no reason

it took months for this to come to light

i fear this might be the same type of problem and i also fear the dev’s will start to nerf or buff things too soon and we will have some really bad meta’s coming here soon

Home slice they were doing this back in OW, too, and not a single person that I’ve seen who was jeering at Tanks & Supports when they were bottlenecking queues then learned their lesson

For the last time, IM A TANK MAIN, JESUS!.
