DPS are their own problem

Hello,
I thought a lot about the state of the game and how balancing works, here are some facts that are, i hope, not arguable :

  • Fact 1 : DPS powercreep
  • Fact 2 : Over time, mobile and weak shielded compositions have been replaced by shield heavy compositions
  • Fact 3 : Great burst damage and one shot mechanics are not a unsual thing anymore

I was thinking about it, people seem to think that the first victims about DPS powercreep are tanks, I can hear that, as a tank player myself, when I see a tank shredder getting buffed, I’m like “yeah will be tougher, so cool”, but when you happen to think about it, the smaller your HP pool is, the tougher it is to survive powercreep.

So a theory directly came in mind : what if DPSes are tough to play because DPSes are too strong ? Wouldn’t the game be more enjoyable for everyone including DPSes if the DPSes dealt less damage ?

Genuine questions.

If they tone done the damage values, there would be even less reason to pick them as healing is one of the issues as well. If you can’t one shot or burst kill someone, they’ll be getting healed back up. This is why the 3-3 (Goats meta) was so strong, Tanks can’t be one shot outside of some Ultimates and three healers would top them right back up.

So if you nerf their damage to make them more enjoyable, you’d make Tanks unkillable as healing would need a nerf as well.

There are far too many shields, armor, and healing in the game and that makes most DPS heroes not viable. They can’t kill anything. The only viable ones are the ones that can one shot like Hanzo.

that’s not true, yesterday in OWL we saw many dps heroes being played while shields like rein and zarya were not played or insta loose for the team who played em. the only hero that’s not being played in OWL (0minutes played) is soldier
