Like supports have just been eating like crazy. Everyone loves juno, lot of people love kiriko, and now Wuyang is looking like he might be the next of those heroes (though possibly a tad less widespread due to skill requirements), and LW is big with his niche. Illari is the only one who is just okay
Dps and tank just had nothing like this in the OW2 era. I’m not sure if they can make a true widespread hero because like half their player base refuses to try anything that isn’t similar to s76, but I think they could come close. But then tank is where they’re really floundering, we’re like 9 years into Overwatch and still haven’t gotten 1 that comes close to the universality of Dva or reinhardt. Idk it’s just it seems they have founded somewhat of a formula for success on support and they could try that formula on another role
I think this kinda explains why it’s harder to make super popular dps heroes to the op. The appeal of dps to many is the high mechanical requirement for some heroes. The problem also is that most people can’t make use of that. One reason support is so popular is because it’s very welcoming due to it’s lower skill floor. A new player can pick up Juno or Kiri and do ok while the same might not be true of Sojourn or Freja. I mean look how long it took for the devs to make Sojourn not a throw pick for lower ranks. Now she’s usable and is likely more popular. AKJ might disagree with this but it’s a reason for the success of the S9 changes is it made previously inaccessible heroes more usable now that the mechanical skill requirement isn’t too high. But the problem still remains that the higher aim requirement of dps will likely always make it less appealing than support. I don’t think this is necessarily a bad thing now that we have 6v6 again.
So while I think Sojourn’s rail gun is a bit overturned, I’ll give you that she’s fun. And IMO power shifting her a bit back towards the primary would make her better. Overall, I like Sojourn’s kit.
Freja though is obnoxious and anyone playing her is just boosted. She needs massive nerfs. She’s just high damage spam while being safely out of reach.
Agreed
You really just like ranged hitscans (or projectile heroes whose projectiles are so fast they might as well be hitscan). Which is fine. I’m not judging you for that.
But I don’t think all DPS players feel that way. Isn’t Genji one of the most popular DPS? He has a lot of people who really love him.
Genji, Tracer, Junkrat, Mei, Cassidy all more popular than Sojourn by quite a lot. They have pretty dedicated fan bases.
The problem with the tank role is they’re all so mediocre most of the time that the second a tank does become 'viable’™, they’re suddenly seen as OP when compared to the rest of the lack luster tank roster.
I can’t comment on DPS or I’d just be talking outta my… butt lol
You are literally just looking at this in terms of skin bot 2000s
As far as GAMEPLAY, ram and sojourn ate, JQ ate
Admittedly, Kiriko and Juno ate too, but LW is generally considered bad design by most or at least boring, and Illari is often disliked or considered boring (I like her though but still)
Venture and manga and dumpy sure but tank has been eating in OW2 (for themselves anyway) and dps only has 3 new heroes, 2 of them literally OWN the game and are popular to play.
Every hero you mentioned has only one thing in common- skin sales… the absolute lamest thing to be concerned about, and the worst thing to happen to this game (and all of gaming)
Reaper is the lamest dps in the game, the only dps heroes above precision dps are Genji, Tracer they are unique made Overwatch as well as all the fps heroes.
Even if you have people not maining Sojourn, you still have aim enthusiasts who enjoy her, having more options
ngl I don’t even play Sojourn, only because full auto is boring, her railgun is sick though and makes the hero, don’t want to see her ruined.
We don’t need 20 more hitscan heroes, there already are more than enough of those to attract the “fps crowd”. They haven’t made a flanker dps hero since 2016 that’s not hot garbage ie Venture. Tracer and Genji are more popular and have higher skill ceiling than any point and click dps hero
What does brig have to do with creating more heroes like Tracer and Genji? Deciding to create Brig 1.0 instead of reasonable nerfs to Tracer was stupid ofc
