DPI & Sensitivity Settings

I’m just curious. Although my mouse DPI goes up to 12k I have it set at 4k. With the ingame Overwatch sensitivity setting at 12.00. What do you guys play on?

For overwatch, players try to come up with a combination of in-game sensitivity multiplied by the DPI setting of a mouse. This creates what we call an “eDPI.” Mine is 800 DPI x 4.15 for a eDPI of 3260, which is in the ball park range of what most pro players use.

The goal for me is to be able to comfortably move the mouse about 10 centimeters left or right to do a successful 180 on screen, while also maintaining the ability to make intimate adjustments for precision aiming.

800 dpi, 3.5 sens.

What heroes do you play? You have an extremely high edpi.

Yes, I figured I did. That’s why I posted this. I play mostly Moira, Orisa and Mei. What would work best for those characters?

Theres no magic number, and theres a lot of preference. Most players who play aim intensive heroes like hitscan generally use very low sensitivities, though some still use very high ones. However in general I’d say most people probably consider “high” to be anything over like 8k-10k edpi.

Make sure you set the sensitivity for every hero. For some reason in this game, there’s the option to set the sensitivity for all heroes globally. But when I tried doing that, my mouse movement noticeably felt faster than having it for each hero.

I asked if anyone else was noticing this phenomenon, but couldn’t get any replies though: Changing sensitivity through All Heroes feels faster?

I’m going to try those settings to see. I’m newer to PC and am messing with the settings to see what’s most comfortable for me.

Just short of 2 full rotations from mousepad left to right.

It’s just comfortable for me.

Remember SLOWLY adjust your settings over time. Like only reduce the in-game by .25 for each play session until you become more and more comfortable. If you try to switch from your current setting to something similar to what I have, you will notice a significant difference that upfront will feel uncomfortable, but if you change it in increments, you will become more adapted as you develop your mechanical reflexes.

Find YOUR comfortable spot, non of us are pro’s and trying to do MLG pro gamer moves is not the play

800 and 4.5, anything higher feels bad for tracking Pharah. Anything lower gives me wrist pain.

Also depends on the character. I play Dva so my sensitivity on PC is far faster than other characters as you need to be capable of point blank aim and quick turns to catch things with DM.
I also prefer wrist aim for that kind of thing compared to whole arm aim.

Yeah lol. Yet, seems that most people on OW act like they are pros with the toxicity lol.

The gm’s basically only play with each other everyday, they are really good to each other, we just see snippit that make it look bad.

I bad day doesn’t undo 355 other good days.

Now plat is a garbage fire haha

You get used to it quickly. A few years back i lowered my sensitivity by a literal factor of 10. It was horrible for like a day or two but then I didnt have much issue.

Use whatever you find comfortable and stick with it. There’s no universal magic settings that are a “one size fits all” or even “fits most”. If you feel comfortable on lower settings use lower settings. If it’s higher then use higher. I don’t recommend using your DPI settings to their fullest extent though (if your dpi goes to 20k don’t use 20k just because you can, there’s issues with some mice). Change the in game settings to adjust generally.

Some people find changing their settings on the fly is helpful, some find having different settings for different heroes helpful. This doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll apply to you.

The single most helpful thing is finding what you’re comfortable with, and sticking with it. I’ve always found that consistency brought my best results. Really hard for me to get used to (let alone good at) a playstyle/ aim technique/ setting/whatever if I’m constantly changing it.

OH BIG ONE HERE. A LOT OF PEOPLE DON’T REALIZE THAT WINDOWS MOUSE SENSITIVITY EXISTS. IF YOU HAVEN’T SCREWED WITH IT- DON’T. IF YOU HAVE MAKE SURE THE MARKER IS IN THE MIDDLE FOR CONSISTENCY, AND ADJUST SETTINGS ELSEWHERE. ALSO ALSO. DO. NOT. USE. ENHANCED. POINTER. PRECISION. (it slows and speeds up your mouse based on how fast you move it) IT’S VERY VERY HARD TO BE CONSISTENT WHEN A SETTING LITERALLY IS THE EPITOME OF INCONSISTENT.

I use 400 DPI, and default in game. Just what I got used to using. (too slow for you, but everyone else is saying their settings so I don’t want to be left out kekw)

Refer to the range of sensitivities pro players use. Sensitivity is largely personal preference. But yours should fall somewhere in the range. (it is a wide range)

UPDATE: I read everyone’s comments and played around with both. I ended up having my DPI on 900 and Sensitivity at 10.00. Feels right for me. Ill keep adjusting as I play more. Right now, that feels good.

I used to play at 1800 ESENS when I played a lot of Ashe. I played at 3140 with Tracer. Right now I’m at 5000 playing only tanks. I think playing a lot of Quake made me raise my sens a bunch. It’s just too important for mobility.
