Let me start by saying I love Overwatch. It’s my favorite game. I like it so much because of the pace/movement, aim style, and teamwork required in a match. This is exactly why Doomfist is my favorite hero. His fluidity of movement and fast pace in and out plays are the most fun I’ve had gaming. Sadly I feel that is gone now.
Nerf after nerf after nerf goes through and now he feels clunky, slow, and completely useless. The Rocket Punch charge up time nerf, the Rising Uppercut nerf where now there is a delay before you can use an ability to escape, the Seismic Slam nerf, the Best Defense nerf, and the Meteor Strike nerf all make him feel awful, useless, and unfun to play.
As a Doomfist player you have to deal with hitscan players that sit far in the back so you end up having to use cooldowns to reach them only to be stunned, hacked, and slept. All these nerfs have directly stripped away the fun of the Doomfist player during this interaction. I have over 400 hours on Doomfist but sadly these nerfs make it so I don’t want to put any more hours into the game at all.
I wrote this because I want everyone who plays Doomfist to be able to have fun again. I want us to be able to enjoy Overwatch again. Thank you to anyone who took the time to read this post. Hopefully we will get changes to Doomfist to have him feel fun again.
Yeah, he is total crap in death match, a sign of a dead character for sure…
I am not anti-Doom, but he just isn’t a kill-bot now and requires even more skill which he should.
He was a kill bot before?
When?
You mean when he wasn’t meta until 2 years after his release? Until the tank meta made it so only doomfist could get value?
He had a period in there he was definitely broken, the forums were full of complaints during that period. Again, I am not anti-Doom, but I still see plenty of good players getting good value out of him. He may not be GM material, but he isn’t garbage either.
Dude let’s be honest…
People STILL complain about doomfist. And when was this period?
Cause he literally has been meta… ONCE.
Hackfist, although I have no idea when that was meta. I’d more classify that as a team comp instead of a meta bc GOATS was the meta at the time of hackfist I think.
It’s almost as if it’s a design problem rather than a balance problem
People are always gonna hate heroes that make them feel like they can’t do anything against them. Some times those people are right, some times they are wrong.
Almost as if every hero in this game has a design problem unless its soldier 76?
The thing is thats the beauty of overwatch. The uniqueness and how the devs still managed to pull it off. Our opinions are always going to be our opinions and they vary from person to person obviously. We think the game has design problems while the game does not, its probably the best multiplayer game that I have ever played and stuck to for so long. Theres a reason the game is also considered a masterpiece and has won so many awards.
The game has unique heroes and always will, if you think certain characters should just outright be deleted or be kept very garbage is certainly a “you” issue.
Mercy rez is a design problem, Widowmaker and Sombra are a design problem, bastion is a design problem and Baptiste is also a design problem so is Roadhog.
The more you think about it the more design problems occur to your mind. There’s barely any design problem in the game.
I stopped playing him after the uppercut nerf, made rollouts way too risky.
You should know the devs can/did make mistakes too. Some uniqueness age well and some just don’t. Doom is one of the cool concept that didn’t work very well, who would have thought a fighter character will not fit very well into a shooter game.
Ya sorry but your hero will never be balanced.
He falls in the same category as Sombra where the mere existence of the hero makes the entire lobby a lot less fun, solely because he is seemingly designed to be infuriating and unbalanced.
If you actually care to get my full thoughts on why Doomfist was a tragic mistake and its just unfortunate for any who flock to the hero, please sift through the trash that is my post history, as Ive written multiple college length theses on the topic of why he will never find balance and is one of the many examples of failed hero design.
The hero will always be either worthless or overpowered, and in either case will leech enjoyment from matches. In the world of game balance, player enjoyment is a part of that balance. Its never fun to get murdered but there is a limit to how much a hero can subtract from a game before its just problematic. Sombra is an example of this due to the nature of her kit being so frustrating to play against, regardless of her state in the meta.
As much as I hate it for you, it doesnt change that you fell in love with damaged goods.
Who would’ve thought a hammer guy would fit in a game with a bunch of snipers ? Or electric monkey with 10 range when there are characters that can 2 shot him ? Or a “rise from the dead” ability where a 1 pick means everything ? Your point is moot.
the point is moot and delivered incorrectly, but ultimately hes on the right track as to why DF will NEVER find a good state.
Combo based heroes are always cool in idea but seem to almost never be properly realized in any game outside of those where every character has said combos. Think of Champions like Ryze and how hes probably the most reworked and changed character in all of video games, and even now still isnt remotely balanced despite existing for LITERALLY 11 years.
They are always cool in concept but the end result is almost always nothing but infuriating and uncontrollable for the devs.
If you have not noticed, those characters are all not categorized as “Damage Dealer”, it works because they are “Tank” and “Healer”.
literally makes no sense lmao.
Doomfist fits perfectly in this game and is close to being balanced.
They only have to revert his uppercut nerf and raise his slam to 20 meters again.
As soon as he is “balanced” or “viable” he will be nerfed out of sight. Some heroes are not meant to be the staple of the game that you have to play with/against them every other game. His design is the problem for everyone.
This. At this point I believe the devs don’t even know what to do with him anymore. It’s not easy though.
Tbh it’s way too much, maybe the revert on uppercut is ok but not the slam tho.
Most people like myself complain not that he’s too strong, but that he’s poorly designed and makes the game less fun for everyone.
