Doom Eternal still a better love story than OW2

Have you ever wanted to shoot a hole into the surface of Mars?

The most hardcore love story, maybe.

I’m going to take this very specific opportunity to ask if anyone found the ancient gods DLC much worse than the original?

I think the new demons made the game less enjoyable and kinda took away from the core gameplay of the base game that I loved so thoroughly.

Embarrassingly enough I haven’t actually played the DLCs because I was too addicted to OW. On returning to Doom Eternal tho I’ve found the marauders MUCH easier to deal with this time around :person_shrugging:

I found the DLC obnoxiously and needlessly difficult compared to the main game and I have no idea why they made such a big push for it

and yes the new demons sucked, I didn’t even finish part 2 because I just ended up getting more frustrated than anything else

I wish id Software would get over themselves and add co-op to Doom 2016 and Eternal. Doom 3 on the OG Xbox had co-op but they later removed it in the BFG edition and the newer Dooms don’t have it at all. It hurts replay value.

I always get excited when I special beam cannon the soil of mars.

I think they’re worth the completion, but if I go back to doom eternal, I’m sticking with the original game for the most part.

I don’t mind difficulty, I just like when I feel like I’ve earned my death. Like the master levels that had the original demons were amazing to me. But when I tried my very first Extra life Nightmare run of the DLC, and I breezed through everything only to lose every life within seconds because they thought it was cool to put a specter boosted marauder in the dungeon with literal frames worth of vulnerability inbetween swings.

they all sucked so bad. don’t even get me started on the spirits, they were the absolute worst things to fight

I never claimed to be very good, I never went above normal difficulty but if I find myself getting consistently frustrated I usually take it as a sign to stop playing

To me the enjoyment from doom is that there are many ways of achieving success, and there’s not a single answer to any solution.

take the shield soldiers, which allow tons of variety in how you handle them

  • Super shotgun grapple disables shield
  • chainsaw goes past it
  • rockets can be detonated around it
  • grenades
  • plasma gun explodes shields

Then you have things like the stone imp

  • the rapid fire shotgun

or the spirit

  • the lock on beam

It’s harder sure, and challenges can be fun, but when it takes away from the variety, it starts to get repetitive and formulaic.

Thats a lot of words for “I dont know how to use the hammer”
