You’re trying to pin the enemy D.va, she moves out of the way, you’re on point and its overtime, you’re about to charge off of the edge… But you can’t stop.
WHAT ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO DO!!
If Overwatch added this TINY adjustment, you blind chargers would be saved!
However, this is the story discussion page, where people post about a hero’s lore or the timeline of the game, etc. I’d recommend moving this to the General Discussion page
The unstoppable charge fits the character pretty well (if you watched the Honor and Glory cinematic, for example). Having long-range D.va boosters like that would also make him a relatively high-mobility character in general, when mobility and range are clearly intended to be his weak points.
The reason he can’t cancel his charge has nothing to do with it eliminating mistakes (it would, but that wouldn’t be broken).
The reason he can’t is because Rein could just charge into his range at a squishy, stop dead in front of them, and just beat them to death. He should only be able to charge with the intention of getting into range if the player has the foresight to either pin someone or stop themselves on map geometry.
I remember back a little after the game first came out. We were on WPG, Reapee was my main back then, and an enemy Rein came charging at me. I wraithed out of the way and Rein went over the edge. The match didn’t last long, and I got play of the game on that move. Funny stuff.
I did a solo team wipe blossom. My team was all dead and in spawn room, enemy team was all on payload, full health and I dropped down and took them all out. They had a Rein, Mercy and Torb for sure. Can’t remember who else they had. Very difficult to pull off now days with all the CCs.
I think it’s mostly for the ability to work like it should- a pinning mechanic to panish enemies for playing too close and even get a kill, but in order for a tank to get a kill it should be something avoid able that should take time and can be cancel able since tanks shouldn’t be about kills, if players could cancel charge mid use they would probably cancel it the same second in order push enemies back no matter what protection they have- this way charge is only good when you’re certain you"ll get value with it, meaning the ability will act more as a punishment and less as a killing option.
It’s also effective for backing down, I know it might be upseting sometimes but it’s better to keep it that way rather than letting Reinhardt test if he can get a kill or not and then stop for some easy damage without risking himself.
