The problem with Biotic Grenade is that is does a lot for what is a relatively short cooldown, and it’s typically the only real counter to powerful healing like Transcendence, Valkyrie, Take a Breather or Coalescence.
As a result, Ana becomes an incredible value for not only healing power, crowd control, and Nanoboost; but also the ability to deny healing from other Supports or select targets. That value is probably what’s game-breaking, much like Sombra’s EMP has incredible return value.
Ana will need tweaks eventually, whether that means that the ability to deny healing from Biotic Grenade is removed and placed on a new ability for a new character or the ability to boost and restore health through biotic grenade is removed, it will have to happen, as the grenade simply does too much for a short cooldown.
That’s kind of ironic though because WInston has been insanely meta and highly picked both last weekend and this weekend/today/yesterday in OWL in almost every game and Mercy hasn’t been picked at all…even though Echo is in the game too they are running Lucio Moira dive with Winston Dva Echo or just running Orisa bunker. And if they don’t run Lucio Moira dive they run Brig Zen dive with Winston Dva Echo. So literally any comp except Mercy.
But yeah dive was gonna make Mercy viable again right? And Echo was gonna make Mercy viable again right? That’s why she has a 0% pickrate this weekend even though dive is meta and Echo is unbanned, right?
This is why the Devs said they are doing a big support balance patch soon

And look at other hero’s Mercy synergises with, all the way down with less pickrate than her.

You’re right though, Mercy wasn’t played at all that game that you posted. But look at the who the mercy specialists are playing. The other mobile sustain healer that peels for team mates, the one Mercy replaced. Also look at the team comp. No Widow. No Phara. Far from your traditional dive comps.

We will see what happens in the next support patch :3 Mercy is getting buffed or Ana is getting nerfed, or both.
It’s not 100%, but Jeff said they are doing a patch soon with “a lot of balance changes to supports, buffs and nerfs” and also changing Moira a lot too which makes me think it will be driven by the community requests, which have been:

Nerf/rework Moira
Nerf Ana
As much as I don’t want Ana nerfed, it would be nice just to see your reaction since you’ve been so staunchly opposed to Mercy getting any help to her viability
It really does go to show how little you actually know about my opinion, only ever engaging when it’s negative towards your personal views. I feel like there’s a lot that can be done to bring Mercy back into a much better spot. None of which is raising her healing or nerfing other heroes to make her compete in places she doesn’t belong to begin with, which is generally the go to answer for, well, almost everyone in these forums.
A few quality improvements such as keeping beam on a target through the valk animation. Some indirect buffs by raising up hero’s she synergises with like Winston and Phara’s hard counters taking some well deserved nerfs. Weakening team comps she doesn’t work with. Bring up Zen so Mercy+Zen can be viable again without Mercy being by far the best healer in the entire game by a mile. Look into frog, since he seems to be a staple in any type of team comp these days.
And lets be clear here. There are many nerfs I wouldn’t mind one way or the other for Ana typically because they were just never needed to begin with, but ultimately didn’t change her viability either. Her magazine size literally didn’t increase her healing average because Ammo management was never an issue for Ana. If anything it only lowered her skill cap in lower elo’s, as this thread suggests. Burst heal on Nano wasn’t needed, Ana’s biggest buff that patch was Lucio being buffed into viability and Mercy’s healing be toned down so she wasn’t doing 16k on average anymore. Yeah, it’s a nice improvement, but it was never needed. And it’s still, an ultimate. That isn’t exactly a throwaway off cooldown skill here. The increase in her Nano range can go too.
The thing is, none of these will bring up Mercy since they enable entirely different team comps. You nerf Ana and suddenly we go back to Moria. Ana and Mercy should never be competing for viability in the same type of team comps to begin with. But when was the last time You saw an Ana main advocate for making Ana viable in bunker or dive? Because there was probably 5 threads just yesterday talking about making Mercy viable in current Meta, which is a deathball.
