Another game with a spectator constantly making toxic comments when people die about how bad they are and diffs and so on.
Why can spectators use game chat at all?

It’s someone’s friend from the enemy side. I don’t think a random can just join anyone’s match.
I agree though someone shouldn’t be able to jump into an on going game though, they should have to wait in lobby or until the current match is over.
Since spectators can glitch the camera I’ve seen and watch your team feeding the enemy Information, it’s a poorly designed system that they completely overlooked.

Why? Because they let random people use something that is meant to be used by the players? I’d rather they fix it and I can see what my teammates say. Turning off chat is not the answer to Blizzard being stupid and letting any random spectator, who is not in the game, be toxic in it.

It still doesn’t fix the fact that a spectator can help cheat for the enemy by spectating the opposing team and feeding them information.
I’ve seen a few clips of spectators glitching the camera into free-view and just completely ruining the game since the enemy knew exactly where everyone was.

I would say if that were an option they have to lock out chat in general or somehow make a new chat all together for spectators to talk in so it didn’t disrupt the game.
But I do like that the more I think about it.
It’s more that it shouldn’t really be allowed in general, some random hopping into spectator making bizarre comments or potentially exploiting spectator cam shouldn’t be allowed.
Hiding chat isn’t a solution. Just disable the ability for people who aren’t playing to disrupt the match.

Did they change this in OW2? When I observed my friends’ matches waiting for them to end in OW1, I could only obs the team of the person I was spectating, and could only chat in their team chat.

You’re always going to have opinionated people tbh, I can already see what spectator chat could look like if two opinionated people started going at it lmao. Or on the lighter side just having a in general Convo about the match and plays being made.

Only spectator and chat with the enemy team should be disabled for good by Blizzard. We have no need for either of them as they are used only for toxicity and harassment.

Theres a bug/glitch where people have been able to get into Free-view. I think generally it still locks you to the team you join but you can still A) Talk in Match chat and harass the team or B) What I was saying above if you know how to manipulate the camera you can feed the enemy Information.
Probably with the exception of custom games.
Fix that glitch then, I see no issue with people typing it he chat of the people they are spectating, not all chat.
That is how it worked in Heroes of the storm yet Blizzard forgot to put it in this game when it badly needs it.

Why match chat? That issue is fully solved by opting out. Spectator chat is different because the spectators can ghost.
