Then how come the enemy tank gets to stick itself in my ear all game AND WIN THE GAME while I focus my attention on its squishies? And I survive some ridiculous amount of time with everyone looking at me BUT NOBODY THINKS TO SHOOT THEM IN THE BACK? PROBABLY BECAUSE SOMEHOW THEY DIED TO AIR?
Or I go on the flank and have the attention of all the enemy squishies while being sneaky and surviving, meanwhile a SINGLE TANK just runs straight ahead into the 1vs4 against the rest of my team AND WINS? WHAT ARE THEY SHOOTING AT EXACTLY?
I’m so done I’m so done just game after game after game in QP of negative DPS and low healing and people DYING TO AIR
I say I’m done but I WANT TO PLAY. I SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO PLAY
As an unfortunate flex (tank only) player, I feel you. Most games people on your team play what they want to play while it depends on you to make up for everyone else, you have to choose a synergizing tank, you have to play around the team, you have to be the first to swap
Depending on your tank you either have to duel the enemy tank, or try and mess with their team, but if your team doesn’t work with you (rarely happens) it’s always a gg
I just give up to be honest. I only perform well if I get people with triple digit IQs on my team. Let’s be real. I mean, actually, I always perform well. I meant to say I only win if.
No, you definitely dive the tank as ball, that’s how he protects his team
Bumping them around and shooting them will make it a lot easier to get them off your teammates than ignoring them will. Plus, tanks are a lot easier to put shots into than squishies so you can get a lot of ult charge doing that.
Last time I came here feeling this frustrated and shared a losing replay of my team getting harassed by a D.Va, and me trying to fend her off as Rein, I was told I was smacking her too much. That I should be focusing on her squishies and flanking. That I should practice a tank like Doomfist to learn the flank-tank style (I did before Haz was added and yes it changed my tanking worldview)
Was going fine for a bit. Managed to carry some pretty bad DPS in QP as Haz at the beginning of the season. but now the enemy tank has so much free time somehow that they can come ALL the way back and follow me around while I’m after their squishies. Either that or the other scenario I mentioned, where I’m free to do my thing, but nobody on my team thinks to shoot at the giant hitbox right in the middle of them and loses a 4vs1
Trust me, I have tried switching. Rarely does any good, because I’m still just one person. No one hero can survive against an entire team’s undivided attention
On Haz, I’m trying to focus on squishies as much as possible. On Rein, it depends on the circumstances. On any hero, I will try switching up the approach if one thing isn’t working. Go from focusing squishies to tank, or tank to squishies. Rarely makes a difference because it feels like there’s just no pressure on the enemy team outside of whatever I’m trying to do
If you ignore the enemy tank, they will tank advantage of that by being free to do the same thing you’re doing or they’ll have a much easier time pinning you inbetween them and their team.
The “ignore the tank” strategy is relying too heavily on your team being outright better than their team, because that’s what it has to be for that strategy to work. Two things end up happening with that strategy; either you ignore their tank and kill their supports successfully, or you don’t succeed trying that while they kill your supports.
If both sides achieve the goal, then nothing was gained on either side and the match is back to neutral as if you didn’t ignore the tank at all.
No, the strategy to use is to pressure the tank into using their abilities for defense rather than offense. If you succeed in doing that without blowing through your own abilities, you can then prioritize whatever target is the most vulnerable by using your abilities offensively.
You don’t charge past the enemy tank as Rein, you use your shield to look for an oppurtunity to firestrike a squishy or charge the enemy tank or find some other way to put somebody low on health. That will force people on their team to use cooldowns, whether that be the tank trying to block, supports trying to heal, or damage trying to survive, and through that somebody will be missing a cooldown they need to survive themselves from a harsher onslaught.
Cooldown management and good positioning is how you win games
Seriously? No, usually Ball dives the squishies and distracts them. Tanks are harder to displace, and Ball doesn’t have the raw sustained damage output necessary to really threaten them.
Best case scenario, Ball forces the enemy tank to peel.
Welcome to the tank experience in 5v5, isn’t it fun…
But yeah, people who say just ignore the enemy tank don’t know what they are talking about. Only high damage squishies with good range have that freedom.
The advice should’ve really been “don’t tunnel vision on the tank, fight them in order to disrupt their engages and help your team while also being aggressive and taking space”
You have to dive their supports and force Doom to peel. Unless the Doom is over extending, going after Doom won’t work well. Ball doesn’t have the tools to threaten him much.
Two supports and two dps do have the tools to send Doom packing if you have the right comp. That’s one of many reasons why Zen Brig was so popular during the last Ball meta.
Plus Ball isn’t the only tank out there that isn’t supposed to focus the enemy tank. Doomfist is another good example.
Sounds like the exact same thing you’re describing. So instead of relying on your team to just be better than the Doomfist, why not help them out in the first place and kill the guy?
Ignoring tanks is the “I hope my team is better than their team” strategy. I’d rather win through actual skill than hope, so I’m gonna stick to playing with the team instead of going lone wolf the whole match.
If Ball attacks Doom, Ball loses most of his value. Almost none of the Ball mains I’ve seen dive the tank (yes even enemy dive tanks) unless it’s opportunistic.
Ignoring the tank is a horrible idea, but you also need to know when shooting the tank is useless. Just see what’s smarter: shooting the tank, or shooting a squishy.
I’m doing some more QP (while duo’d with my sister on Support so I know at LEAST one person is trying to help me out), and am trying harder to divide my attention and work on timing and management and whatever. It’s going slightly better, though I’m sure at least part of that is the duo thing. Or all of it. We also experience garbage loss streaks sometimes while duoing too so IDK
Or at least it WAS going slightly better. Now it’s back to trash like this, to showcase a couple of them. Both losses obviously
Garbage everywhere
And this is a replay of the latest match as of now, which isn’t pictured above: PMW2A2
Notice in round 3 how I try to take different angles towards the end as Rein? See how the ENTIRE ENEMY TEAM comes to meet me as if they have nothing else important to do? That’s exactly what I’m talking about
