Dont add penalties while leaving a game on Arcade and Quickplay

I mean, its supposed to be games to have fun and if you are agaisnt a team that its torturing you, and you aren´t able to do a thing why can´t we leave without penalties? Why after a few matches it appears a message that leaving too many matches will give you some kind of punishment? I mean if im in arcade or in quickplay is because i want to try to have fun, why should I keep playing a match that is causing me anxiety or rage?

Leavers create a ton of problems for everyone.
A team having to 5v6, all wondering if they should just leave as well because who knows how long you’ll wait for another 6th.
Dps ques being 10+ minutes, all to back-fill into a losing game with 1 minute left.
Little to no consequence to leaving means alot of leavers on average. Aka alot of frustrating games for others. Only furthering the cycle of leavers.
If a tank leaves, gg, you’ll never get another one.
The consequences for punishing leavers?

Because leaving a match ruins it for the other 11 people.

The penalties in both QP and [especially] arcade actually need to be way harsher.

Counter argument:

Maybe it would help if the players in the match would BEHAVE and actually act civilized. They wouldn’t have leavers.

Bottom line is. Leavers being in the game keeps others motivated to stop acting the way they do. Yes, the ones that leave at the end of a match in overtime is really bad. But the ones that bail mid-match do it because players are doing just “that”. Not be civilized and just play the game.

Leaving your team to sit in a 5v6 for who knows how long deserves at least some sort of punishment. Be it a longer queue or a endorsement reduction, idk.

You guys are complaining about people going 5vs6 but everytime somoene leaves a match somoene enters almost right away, so i dont know what you guys are talking about, besides quickplay and arcade are supposed to be games for having fun, if somoene has to leave or wants to they should be able to without consequences

Alright… remove leaver penalties… but make it so that every player is Locked into each match there as well. (Aka… only leaving by shutting the game down and on restarted it loads you right back into your match)
Boom! Can’t get a leaver penalty if you can’t leave… also… No more backfill, ever.

There’s a huge issue with giving leavers in QP and Arcade penalties. Not meeting expectations makes failure unacceptable. What this means is that they would have to tweak the matchmaking in both modes to be much better or else it would cause players to quit the games in masses instead of leaving every now and then. I actively leave games because I often see games where for example there are 3 stack of GM that I recognize from earlier games on the opposing side, while my tank buddy is a 2300SR off tank player. There is a 0% chance than when the rest of the teams are normalized to an average MMR that we have any chance to win a game like that unless the opponents heavily sandbag. In either case those games are completely unenjoyable and on the contrary are a complete waste of time because they only make you upset. Leaving those games, avoiding a player and being able to go next is detrimental for a players’ enjoyment if they want to play the game properly for a win. That can’t be changed unless they tweak the matchmaking for the better. It also means longer queue times which are not on their priority list apparently

Also if you think that someone else’s subjective feelings about the game’s enjoyment trumps another player’s subjective feelings about the same thing, you’re just being naive and hypocritical. Just because you feel uncomfortable about a leaver doesn’t mean that they should feel uncomfortable and stay in the game

Yeah I am always having so much fun joining a TDM when it’s 14 to 28 kills
Or a QP match where I get to pick a character for 5 seconds before I get a DEFEAT screen.
Never had more fun.

In the games I play in arcade, people commonly just leave because they’re losing. It happens on both teams, regardless of how people act. They have this mentality that “it’s only arcade” so it’s obviously no big deal. But it essentially ruins the match. The 5v6 often takes a while to fill, and that causes other people to leave because “it’s an unwinnable 5v6” and then it gets down to a 3v6 and the game gets canceled. This happens unreasonably often.

Then why does pretty much all modern multiplayer games EXCEPT Overwatch put you in a timeout/deserter status for leaving even quick matches?

I think Blizz needs to increase punishment for leaving; an exp-gain reduction slap on wrist isnt enough. People still constantly leave the moment that 1st point/round is lost

Not all game modes fill quickly. Try playing CTF. People on the opposing team leave almost the instant you cap the flag once because they’re sore losers.

Pretty much every other game I’ve ever played has penalties for leaving matches. Overwatch is actually the saddest excuse for a penalty system I’ve ever seen, and the fact that you want even less of a penalty is a huge issue to me. If you leave a match you should have a queue penalty starting at a few minutes and working its way up. If you legitimately have to leave then a few minutes should be a non issue because that will have passed by the time you handle whatever the situation is.

I’d be happy if they remove the warning prompt. And just show the -75xp on your name.

Im trying to think of another form of entertainment that punishes participants for leaving, and having a hard time thinking of one.

Its a fundamentally dumb idea. Fix the system so that leaving isn’t such a burden on the remaining players, instead of punishing players for the equivalent of leaving a pickup game of basketball at the park.

Also, I win most backfill games I join. Most times the problem player is the one that leaves, and the backfill is stronger or at least has a better attitude. This happens all the time on both sides, more often than when nobody else joins for long periods (almost never), or being backfilled into a defeat screen.

Given that fun is subjective, except insofar as it tends to be destroyed by fighting undermanned against an already winning team, you, OP, are pretty much exactly what makes so many matches so much less fun.

I even find it fun lol. It’s actually something to clear. Unlike the game giving us nothing to do. But just play X over and over again. It’s also probably used for people who don’t want to level up.

See I MIGHT be inclined to agree if not for one simple thing…

You have to leave multiple games in a short span of time to incur the penalty

The Reasons why people do/don’t leave the match

  • Game about to end and they’re losing
  • Lose first point
  • Lose first round (KoTH)
  • About to lose 2nd round (92%) and there is no way their team can touch

Honestly it’s mostly DPS players who leave, and then someone who just waited 10 minutes gets put into that game 10 seconds to the end. I think the person who left should be blocked from Queuing for 10 minutes, they wasted 10 minutes of someones time.

though I think this should only count if you leave once a match starts, not when you leave prior (e.g character selection)

It’s already a problem but not a huge one, you know why? Because people avoid leaving to not get punished. If there were no punishments you would have people leaving CONSTANTLY. Like first lost push on attack and you are 1v6. Backfills come in and they leave again after seeing that people have left and they don’t want to fill.
Lose a teamfight? Leave.
Don’t like the map? Leave.
Don’t like attacking? Leave.
Don’t like defending? Leave.
Don’t get to pick hero you wanted? Leave.
Enemy team has a hero you dislike? Leave.
Don’t have supports? Leave.
Don’t have tanks? Leave.
Leave? Leave.

That’s the clownfiesta game you want?
