So does OW2 on Xbox have Dolby Atmos support?
I have three (four with stereo) options:
- Windows Sonic
- Dolby Atmos
- Dolby DTS
I have Rig 800 headphones that support Dolby Atmos btw.
What audio settings do any of you other Xbox players use?
GLHF
I use Dolby Atmos and can tell when it is off. I think you need to pay a one time license fee of $15 or have a code in your headphone box.
I also use the “Studio” preset in the OW audio menu.

Cool, that is what I use right now. I had a code with my headphones.
I just found it strange that Overwatch made such a big deal about Atmos, but it is not listed as a feature in the Microsoft store.
I will give studio a try! thanks
Edit: here are the attributes OW has in the Xbox store:
- Online co-op (2-6)
- Online multiplayer (2-12)
- 4K Ultra HD
- HDR10
- Xbox Live Cross-Gen Multiplayer
- Ray Tracing
- 60 fps+
- 120 fps
- Optimized for Xbox Series X|S
- Smart Delivery
- Xbox One X Enhanced
- Xbox achievements
- Xbox Live
But no Atmos? And games like COD, Halo, Forza, etc all explicitly list Atmos

I mean, it’s headphones, so it’s all software virtualization and not true Atmos. If it sounds good, go with it. Personally, I’d rather use a quality pair of stereo headphones.

What do you use? Or do you use speakers? Thx
I think the major difference in pc to xbox is the ability to turn on Atmos directly. Xbox passes all audio through Atmos if thats what you selected in the console settings. The option isn’t shown in-game for any title.

I’m not a shill but I recommend you download the Atmos demo and see how well it does. The 5.1 test will show you how it handles discrete channels. The only ones that don’t sound believable are the “above head” channels.

I already have a small music studio setup, so I just use my Audio Technica M60s for headphones. They sound great, in my opinion. I have a pair of Sennheiser gaming headphones with 7.1 virtualization and all that junk, but they don’t sound as good and aren’t as comfortable to me.
I used to have 5.1 wired in the office of my last place, but the receiver died and I just have crappy Walmart speakers there until I figure out what to replace it with. I don’t wanna run wires through my ceiling for Atmos, but 5.1 is great if you have carpet to run wires under.
I’ve actually been thinking a lot about gaming ear buds lately. Seems like the tech is getting better on those.
Yeah I believe there was a $15 licensing fee for console but then it’s yours. Haven’t played console in a few years but as I recall it was a pretty big positional audio improvement and I had to have it from then on.
That being said also kind of agree with others. If you can get a top end audio setup Atmos isn’t necessary. Probably better off long term going that route as good audio gear is good regardless what you plug it into. And you don’t have to mess with settings when changing from like gaming to a movie or whatever.
