Does this really have any place in a competitive enviroment?

No. Im answering this before I even begin, and then at the end of this brief forum post you can decide for yourself afterwards.

Ever since I’ve started playing overwatch I’ve noticed something, people on my team are definitely not my skill level. And im not saying this to be toxic, and before you go digging up a mods old sticky please read the rest of this.

I’ve gone through many forum posts, its currently 1:40 am and I cant really sleep until this is posted somewhere, even if it gets deleted immediately after.

Tons of people complain about this issue though, but they only ever get responses such as you should improve yourself, focus on your mindset, blablabla. And yes, you could queue for a 6stack, in fact thats probably the only reliable method at this point.

Why does this happen? patents.google./patent/US20160005270A1/en [add a com after “google.”]
A patent held by activison, you can read over it if you want, if you dont have the time to spare ill summarize it. Good players are put with braindead teammates so they feel good about it so they buy boxes and drive profits. And honestly if this only affected arcade and quickplay I wouldn’t give a damn. Unfortunately I’ve been getting better, my teammates get worse, and I lose SR.

This patents open til 2035 by activision are pretty scary to be honest, im sure the future of all activision and blizzard multiplayer titles are to be bright.

Another side note, one of the Inventors of this patent’s name is Keith S. Kaplan
I cant find any relation between this guy and Jeff Kaplan, however its pretty hard to find any history on Jeff. The more you look into it the weirder it seems.

Was overwatch created for the sole purpose of money? yes, everything is.
Whats the point of this post then? The online gaming community as a whole is being manipulated, told there are certain rules and if they are followed then you can get that sick top 500 spray.

TL:DR im salty that i cant donk on kids with my mccree because i feel like im playing with a 6 year old version of me on controller because of lootboxes…?

They made a billion dollars off lootbox sales alone.

Yes, a BILLION.

I was thinking, how could they have sold that many lootboxes? I myself and all my friends have never bought one. It gets more twisted the more you think about it dude

I know, and people dont talk about it at all. I thought and like honestly when i first started researching I was just upset i was losing games, I knew about the teammate placement system. But I thought it was just to let everyone win some way, not just for money. Makes it worse somehow ;.;

You mean how you pay for a game and your performance in game is somehow like advertising? Yet, you’re not paid for it.

Inb4 someone tells me to do up my chin straps

the method comprising: identifying, by the host computer, an in-game item that is relevant to a first player, but not yet possessed by the first player for gameplay in a multi-player game; identifying, by the host computer, a second player that possesses the in-game item; and matching, by the host computer, the first player and the second player to play in a gameplay session to encourage purchase of the in-game item by the first player, wherein the matching is based on: (i) the relevance of the in-game item to the first player, and (ii) the possession of the in-game item by the second player.

You know what. That… is disgusting. So Pink Mercy, the OWL exclusive skins… that’s what they do. Once one player has them, they pair that player up with whoever the hell this computer wants to drive purchases. I understand that they’re a company and they want to make money, but that’s disgusting. As veteran players, we should be rewarded for our support by being put in fair matches ALWAYS, not sometimes. This made my stomach turn a bit

So basically, as a hard-carry support, that’s why I consistently have players under level 25 on my team even though I’m a high silver portrait… nice

I just don’t see any logic in this at all. Lootboxes are optional to buy and don’t impact gameplay at all.

They’re shiny things. New players like the shiny things. It makes plenty of sense from this perspective but if you read further down the patent, the queue times taking forever is DELIBERATE. They MADE the queue times bad. tldr: when you’re in queue, it’s trying to find a match you can join with someone you know on it. And when you finally find a match, it’s apparently supposed to be a match that is presumed to “end at or around the same time” as the match your friend is in.

You will not get worse team mates when you will play better. Example of your random team mates is person same skilled as you. You only think you play better than other players you call as worse. Do you know what they think? They do think same as you, they have worse team mates and one of them is you for them.

You will not climb until you change this “i have bad team mates” mantra.

Show us then, tell us your rank and record one of your games so we can check it. Better to record 3 tho to have bigger sample.

Patent? I dont care about some kind of patent held by who ever at all. I know climbing can be done and its not even that extremely hard.

Maybe stop searching for consiracy theories where they are not?

If I recall, that patent was more related to Call of Duty, and specifically to non-competitive gamemodes.

What makes you think they use this specifically in comp. Have you run into people with an “in game item” that you haven’t purchased on the regular? As bad as queue times are, imagining that they could implement a system like this in OW competitive and NOT have 50 minute DPS queues consistently would be crazy. Not only looking for one of the dozen or so people that play tank at your rating, but then to add the complexity of “Oh, but does he have the skin I want to sell this other guy also queuing” or “Oh, but has he lost a couple games first, otherwise I can’t make this match.”

In Call of Duty, where again, if I recall, this system was made for, this is easy to do, and obviously useful. There’s no shortage of players and no requirements for the players put into a match. It’s also meant to make people win/lose regardless of skill, which isn’t the case in OW.

Seeing a patent and knowing EXACTLY where and how it’s used is different.

I am actualy amazed how some individuals can constructs conpsiracy theories like this to created complicated excuses why are they not climbing lol.

If people like this would rather actualy learn the game instead of finding excuses, they would climb.

I had similar discussion with different guy over this nonsense. OP has 1 post, i would not be suprised if thats same person just under different account posting about this patent every few weeks to fuel his crazy theory and talk about it.

All his arguments are basicly same, so i guess its him again.

Patent basically reads that players who spend money are placed with people who are statistically more set to win a game. Please actually read before talking about logic…

Ugh, this just disgusts me, but I can’t say I’m surprised. Me, a gold border, getting put with level 10s multiple times a week cannot possibly be an accident…

Here before some dumb elitist tells you to “change your attitude and git gud to carry 5 noobs” because we all know they love that.

Almost had a stroke reading that mate, I climbed from silver to diamond in about two seasons, haven’t played competitive seriously since season 12ish. Dont fact check me on that, it was whenever brig was added.

Yes climbing is possible, sure its way easier in a 6stack. This system is still in effect and is making you lose on purpose the less money you spend on their game.

About Jeff, it’s not a “consiracy” theory, its a point relevant to my discussion, just thought i’d add it in there, you’d think as hes a public figure for both blizzard and overwatch that thered be SOMETHING online, but no.

No, not everyone can climb and most importantly not everyone should be bothered. To be stuck at the rank is meh, to be stuck at the game is pathetic.

I am glad to hear you are ok after you were out for 16 days man.

No its not, its actualy harder, unless its 6 stack of players who are all serious about climbing and improving together as team. Best way to climb is solo q or max duo, depends on heroes you main.

No its not, show us evidence for your hilarious claims.

The patent has been post around cod forums & sub Reddits for the past few years. Activision has claimed they don’t use it. But there is nothing to stop them from lying to us.
There is no more blizzzard, there hasn’t been the blizzard we all remember. They are just Activision wearing a cheap blizzard suit to try make us nostalgic for the quality they used to put out.

But that patent would be useless in ow as its not pay to win game.

Anyone can climb, one thing is trying and other thing is taking it casualy or being lazy to improve. People who are stuck usualy dont care about comp enough to improve. But they can improve and climb.

People who dont take comp seriously, should not play it at all.
