Does the hero SR rank mean anything significant

Does it mean anything in reality? What is it supposed to really reflect? It’s not clear.

I am diamond 1 and super close to masters. But i have hooped between “master and grandmaster” on sym this season according to the hero SR.

It seems to be way overshooting me- however I DO have a 78% win rate on her…. At 40 games, that seems like it’s not a fluke. I have been doing well.

But, anyway, I take it with a grain of salt because I don’t even know what it’s suppose to reflect.

I’m also “master” with Illari and brig. Very cool! If it truly represents anything other than playtime that is.

I mean I’ve hit Plat 5 before, and Hero SR for bap is also Plat. So in that sense, it’s somewhat accurate?

But then again, it has been so hard to get value out of ana for couple of seasons now. So much so that my hero SR for ana is almost 800SR lower than my bap. Even though I have almost twice as much hours on ana than bap.

I have seen a GM streamer get masters on some of their heroes though. So it might not translate as well with heroes that you play less frequently. It might decently reflect the SR range of the hero you play frequently though…but even then, I’d give it +/- 1000SR in accuracy.

Also, it makes sense that your hero SR for sym is GM. Since your winrate on her is 78% in high diamond. If your sym truly belonged in diamond, her winrate would be much lower. This is even if you’re only using sym on maps that’s strong for her too, and 40 matches is reasonable number of games. Imagine if you would only get sym favored maps, you would essentially be climbing to GM in no time.

Personally I play her ANY map, and I’ve (I think!) generally mastered altering my strategies significantly based on the maps and based on my team comp. As you could probably guess I’m not a lijiang tower turret nest beam bot. That stops being cute after plat Lol. Every map had a series of geometries or map constructs that hides turrets or crested nasty flank punishes to secure your back line with in different spots and I know some for every map, and I keep track of tp angles too to hold them. I often end games with mitigations between 10-15k. I wish sym stats tracked mitigation. I also know when to choose between shield sym and shield gen sym based on my team comp and enemy team comp, and gauge which will benefit the team more. Like do I need to be self functioning and pick the shield gen due to low heals or a needy tank? Or do I need to block more damage due to hitscans? Is the barrier more value because it buys just enough time to melt sigma/Zarya solo without me needing any backup at all if I’m careful? Is there consistent health packs to play my barrier with to literally serve as my own support and tank in one? But if so, is it located somewhere I can kill and get value? Or do I just need to hold them off objective and the kill isn’t necessary but available as long as I force them to push? Oh the fun of being a sym main who loves strategy… there is no other hero like her.

I would absolutely be masters this season (I’m literally one game away) but sym gets banned decently often. I swear I get banned then next game she doesn’t and I win Lol.

Suppose i need to get at least one other dps hero to my sym level so it isn’t an issue, but… nobody clicks for me or is as fun and satisfying and strategic as she is for me. Although I have noticed mei feels much better and more strategic this season with her perk changes- but that’s an awful secondary for sym, they have decently similar weaknesses (even tho I do and will play sym into pharah and echo and absolutely win. Pharah has to land eventually. And I’ll be right there ready to catch her.)

I am over 3.2k with Kiriko and sit in Plat 4 (after a losing streak from Plat 2). So I would assume that I should get to diamond if I keep playing, or thats what I would expect to see if the system works.
