Doomfist can’t one-shot Roadhog or even finish him off with his combo
Roadhog has incredible sustain
Due to Doomfist being a walking hitbox of a DPS, you can hook him pretty easily when he tries to jump away or he’s in the middle of uppercutting your team
But the reason I ask is because I’m only 2079 as tank and Doomfists at this level are pretty easy to deal with. But when I play as support in Plat, there is a significant difference in skill level of the Doomfists (and other DPS) that I see in Plat vs low to mid Gold
Is Roadhog a good counter to Doomfist in the higher levels?
It would be a definite war of attrition if both are playing well to their kits. That said, Doom really shouldn’t be trying to pick fights with hog unless there are no better targets around.
He is 100% a Doomfist counter. I’m a tank main and if there is a Doomfist my team can’t seem to handle I’ll go Hog.
The key though is that you have to be able to land Hooks. If you can’t do that you’re pretty useless.
One other thing Hog can do though is body block like a champ. If Ilm in the right position I can and will kinda toss myself in front of a Doomfist intended target and eat his combo (which makes it even easier to Hook him)
I’d argue he’s not a counter, it’s fairly neutral. DF has a hard time killing Hog due to sustain and high health pool, but DF doesn’t have much problem dodging and farming some ult off a Hog.
Hooks don’t always spell death, as an instant uppercut scores some health with a quick punch or ult to escape.
He does make DF think a bit, but isn’t a sure pick to turn tides.
If the Hog is actively zoning doom out of his backline he is a counter. If he is a Flankhog he is one less person Doom has to murder, since his team will take care of that.
Definitely need to land hooks. But it’s honestly pretty damn easy to hook Doomfist, and I am far from an aim god.
The other reason I asked this is because when I’m playing support in Plat, and the team is having trouble with a Doomfist (even with a McCree), no one really switches to Hog to counter him. Obviously that could be due to our comp or they’re just not comfortable with Hog, but I can’t recall one time in a Plat match where a tank on my team switched to Hog to deal with the Doomfist.
So I thought maybe Hog as a counter to Doomfist just isn’t viable in ranks above Gold
But yea, if no one wants to counter the Doomfist, I’ll switch to Ana to sleep him. Again, due to his giant hitbox, it’s relatively easy to land sleeps on him lol (and again, my aim is very much average)
Hog can hook an escaping Doomfist back for killing but I don’t think 1v1 is very favourable for either. If FFA is anything to go by then Doomfist has to land every every cooldown (and to get lucky cancelling Breather with a stun) to maybe kill a Hog, and Hog has equally unreliable chances of killing a full health Doomfist before he escapes.
Not really. If you land a Hook you can one-shot him. You aim for his neck and its almost a sure kill. In the event he survives due to a few pellets missing or because he had a bit of shielding Hogs alternate fire is the perfect distance to hit a retreating Doomfist.
My guess would be that they don’t know how to play him. Hog seems to be that kinda hero that you either love him or hate him. If you never play Hog then you def will have problems with his Hook (and how to properly follow up which is a big aspect of hooking a target) along with handling his weird gun.
Not to mention that some people are really bad at surviving with Hog since he doesn’t have any armor or ways of avoiding damage.
I play a lot of Roadhog. Now I understand why everyone seems to hate Doomfist except for me.
Roadhog might be a gray area as far as countering Doomfist goes, but if you force a Doomfist to constantly take you into account and keep dodging you in addition to trying to secure kills, you’re making his life a lot harder.
I guess I need to practise some more Hog then. Or maybe I’ve only come across mediocre Hogs, who knows. Usually I manage to escape if I’m taking on the pig as Doomguy and almost but not quite manage to kill him.
Problem with running Hog, is that you are now losing to Sigma/Orisa because they have constant shields in your face and your hook becomes useless unless the doom engages early which he doesn’t even have to do.
In a vacuum, 1v1, I would say hog has the definite advantage if he can land hooks. All it takes is one shot before, then hook combo and dead doom. However, doom has a lot of mobility, and his shields keep returning as he pummels you into submission, so if the hog doesn’t end it quick it can get annoying. Out of the vacuum, hog gets an even better advantage of having a team to capitalize on the hook
Doomfist can’t really do much against Roadhog. That says a lot when even the pros would still rather go double barrier and just try to ‘out Doom’ each other.
