Or am I tripping? What do you guys think? So far I’ve had a decent time vs zar whenever i pick rein.
Somewhat because you can run her and her team over especially with a speedboost and force her to use cooldowns alot and rein vs zarya in a 1v1 has always been a bad matchup even in OW1.
I think in higher tier this doesnt work as well.
Not really, I’d say its at the very least 60/40 in the favor of Zarya.
Rein fares much better than tanks like Road, DF and JunkerQueen though.
You can generally keep yourself from charging too much. She will absolutely eat your firestrikes for energy charge though, as well as if you do bad charges (like initiating a fight with it from an obvious position), and even if you charge her, she will usually have a bubble to absorb any follow-ups to the charge as you can’t isnta-kill her at full health.
Waiting for her bubbles to expire and then popping earth-shatter makes for easy kills though, as she doesn’t have a shield like Rein, Sigma or Winston.
He is best at really “Tanking” against Zarya, rather than dueling her I think. But you really need heals in order to fight her.
Just Rein vs Zarya in a 1v1? Rein will win.
But in actual team fights the Rein will drop first because he’s much more vulnerable to the enemy DPS and supports.

Only with reliable healers.
Rein counters everything with a lucio on maps where you are in a lot of enclosed spaces, like kings row.
It depends. In a straight 1v1 with no outside help, they’re pretty even in terms of who’s gonna get who and will boil down to cooldown management and player skill.
In a team environment, lots of factors affect the matchup and right now, if Rein isn’t getting exactly what he needs when he needs it, the Zarya is going to be in a better position.

In a straight 1v1? It’ll be hard because she out ranges him. Unless we assume the 1v1 Starts with her within range of his hammer.
