I’m not good at this game. I’m pretty bad, actually. But I don’t think it’s fair to lose 15 Quick Play games in a row. I feel like there should be some sort of system in place that will prevent that from happening.
Like, I shouldn’t be matched with Widows hitting crazy headshots or tracers who singlehandedly destroy our team. I can’t compete. I’m not that good. And I feel like maybe after losing a certain amount of games I should start being matched with people at my own skill level. But again I’ve lost 15 in a row, and before that about 8, and before that about 10. It’s not fun anymore.

It kind of seems to? It’s a pretty big spread, though, I find. There’s definitely a difference based on your rank, though.
It does, but it’s not as strict. For the fairest games, play comp.
Supposedly, but I will tell you the quality of matches was about the same on my bronze alt as my nearly diamond main. So… Yeah.
If you want actual matchmaking, competitive is the way to go.
I usually have a forced 50% win-rate on QP.
The level of the teammates is most of the times random.
If both of your tanks or supports are low levels, just leave because it’s a lost
That’s a lot. Stop playing for a day.
I had a long streak of defeats on QP several months ago, it disappeared the next day.
Probably not, when I was low Gold I was put up against Diamond/Masters players for some reason
It exists but it is very loosely defined.
Hey Jabber, if you find your on a losing streak, over and over and over again, your most likely stuck in the same lobby of players.
At the end of the game, don’t immediately requeue for a new match. Take a short break, get a drink, whathaveyou. Then requeue.
If you’re tight on time, and don’t want to take a minute or two break, join a different mode. Try QPC if your in QP, or vice versa. If you see an arcade mode you like (Mayhem!), play a round of that.
The opposite holds true as well. If you come across a great batch of players, requeue immediately, and the chances are high you’ll end up playing with them again.
It’s not a perfect solution by any means, but it will generally break a bad losing streak.
And don’t feel too bad if you get rolled every now and again. It happens to everyone. Sometimes you smash, and sometimes you get smashed. Work on protecting your supports, taking advantage of your tanks, and just trying not to die over and over and over again. Success (or a thicker skin) will come in time.
Good luck.

I think it’s the same exact as comp…but therein lies the problem…when you have a bunch of people who all treat QP as something different…that number (which is already not a very good representation of you as a player) is going to be even weaker…
The short of it is…yes there’s a matchmaker…yes there’s mmr…
But…It doesn’t matter…it’s a crapshoot anyway

matchmaking is a joke in OW overall.
especially in QP, where people dont care at all (they wont even join voice, if you ask them, they refuse to switch heroes to more team-based heroes or even when they feed/countered by enemy heroes). dont expect this to change. blizz doesnt seem to care (thats my feeling)
I’m pretty sure the developers at some point confirmed that QP has its own MMR and the matchmaker for it is less strict when it comes to matching. But otherwise you’re right about one of the major issues; if people don’t take QP seriously enough, then their MMR is going to be even less accurate.
It’s own as in its separate from comp…but I think functionally it’s the same exact system…I doubt they have multiple functionally different matchmakers
Both comp and qp have a hidden mmr for matchmaking. Comp has the restriction that your sr (which is not the same as your mmr) must be within 1000 sr. It still uses hidden mmr though to try to put together matches, just like qp.
Qp has way less strict requirements for mmr ranges though to speed up matchmaking.
It’s not as strict and if it can’t find an even match in enough time, it will try to place you into a game quickly instead of waiting for an entirely fair one. Idk what levels you’re playing against but if they are really low level and doing well, the match maker hasn’t had enough time to figure out where they belong.
It’s not the same. Actually it’s not even close to the same. In comp whatever your SR is you are mainly matched with people +/- 500 SR of you. It is very rare to be matched with someone outside of that range.
In QP, I get matched with anything from Bronze to GM and everything in between. I do feel there is some semblance of matchmaking as Bronze and Silver players in my games are not that common even though it does happen every so often. In comp however it literally never happens, not even once, because my SR is simply out of that range.
To assert that they are exactly the same tells me you aren’t paying attention.
Aside from the SR obviously (the one restriction that separates it from QP - SR limit and grouping limit)…
I’m just talking about functionality…how it assigns you the mmr…and how it goes up and down
I find that the time of day you play can really affect the quality of you matches in QP/QPC as well. Middle of the day on the weekend can be a complete cluster, but later in the evening can be awesome.
I play Mercy in some extremely interesting ways.
