Does playing above 30 FPS really make THAT much of a difference?
I’ve never played higher, serious question. Does it really make aiming much easier or anything? Or does it just look nicer?

YES, OH GOD YES! The difference is … er… stunning!
Edit: Let me put it this way. What OWL at 30 FPS, specially the widow battles. Sometimes it might feel like the pros are headshotting before even seeing the enemy but in fact what happens is that you are watching at 30 FPS while they are playing at 144 FPS (or more).
Haven’t played at 30fps so I can’t say but there’s been times where I drop to like 50 and that triggers me. The overall game feel just feels wrong
You should be at at least 60 fps
All extra frames help, be it 30 60 144 or even 240.
Things are going to look insanely smooth. It makes aiming easier, and everything more pleasant. If you really want to treat yourself, go buy a 144hz monitor and play at 144fps.
(Note: Upping fps won’t necessarily make you a better player. It makes aiming easier, but you also have to adjust to the new framerate.
People will swear up and down that it makes a difference, but in my experience higher fps only makes the experience more enjoyable. A while back I was goofing around with different settings and I capped my fps at 30 to see how bad it would be (I normally play at 144). It was annoying, but it didn’t really hurt my gameplay at all.
edit: If you are a top 500 widow it probably matters, I will concede that much.
You are missing out a lot.
It depends on which heroes you choose. 60 fps is the minimum for most precision heroes like WM. It’s easier to get tells and predict movement that way.
30fps is fine for most heroes, but it can be difficult for certain heroes that rely on reaction time.
Okay, thanks much.
Gonna try running at 60, see if laptop will do it.
Thanks all
YES! I would still be bronze if I played at 30FPS.
You optimally want above 120 fps.
144 is your target, both fps and hz. I notice a big diff between 120 and 144 and 144 monitors are very affordable now.
Actually, the more important thing is that if your machine is too slow to go above 30 FPS, it might have some kind of motion lag. I used to played a lot on my laptop (which could only do 30 fps at lowest settings) and doing fast motions would create a motion “lag”: I would do a fast turn then stop the mouse and then it would take the computer an additional 0.3 seconds or so to stabilize the final angle. All of those things mess up your aim.
Also, if you are playing on low sens, you should get a gaming mouse or the “malfunction speed” of your mouse is going to screw up your game. It took me a long time to figure these things and I hoped someone had told me much much earlier.
I play on a laptop from 2012 haha. I don’t think I can get 144fps ;p
ONE DAY!
Saving up some to build a PC once my income increases a little
Nice! You won’t regret $$ spent on a 144 I promise.
Go 144 and don’t look back.
Put everything to low for graphic settings
except:
model detail
anti aliasing
texture filtering
texture detail
Ambient Occlusion should be off
v-sync off
reduced buffering should be on
and triple buffering off
The game will still look good but push out max fps
If still not getting 60
turn off local reflections (your golden guns won’t shine but it will give you more frames)
If still not getting 60 lower the exceptions above
and lastly lower the Render Scale, you can run with this at less than a 100% to improve fps, but avoid it if you can.
My pc had an issue last year and I had to configure OW to be runnable on the bare minimum specs for my non gaming laptop.
Yes, most definitely, it really hampers your Input Lag.
Used to play on 30 fps medium quality myself but now I am playing on lowest quality on 60 fps and I noticed it very much.
I’ll try all those settings. Currently I am on 50% render scale, but have been running at 75 previously. Was just testing 50% to see how it felt.
Thank you
