Does Overwatch need more anti-shield heroes?

Heroes like Junkrat and Reaper seem like viable options, but it takes them a pretty long time to bring down shields. And even after they take them down, characters like Orisa can easily pop out a brand new shield within seconds. The best anti-shield hero I can think of is Bastion, although he’s a stationary target who can be easily avoided. With heroes like Bastion, Junkrat, and Reaper, do you guys think Overwatch needs to have more anti-shield heroes?

Nah I dont think we should have any anti barrier characters or barrier nerfs until we get some better protection against one shots that dont affect more spread out over a time period damage

I think it’s more complicated of an issue than “just break shields faster”. Like ok shield are off the table, now what? You run a heavy shield breaker and a sniper combo? Break shield and one shot people?

So the other team goes no shield and just hooks or dives everyone, being there are no shield? So then just run double sniper/Zen and have three players that can one shot at range due to no shield?
How is that better game play? How does any team push a choke if a shield is just down in heart beat?

As much as we love to whine about balance, it’s not easy to balance this game. Personally I just want to see a focus on tank balance so that maybe this or that combo is the core meta BUT you can still make these other ones work if you’re enough of a nerd or it’s the right map.
Right now? Some of them have pretty much zero chance and it’s Sigma/Orisa for every map.

Reaper is not really a shield-breaker. Junkrat needs a bit of love right now, IMO. Symmetra is probably the strongest anti-shield in the game at the moment, and Sombra can clear the whole field with a well-placed EMP.

With all of that, I think adding more anti-shield into the game probably won’t help all that much. Making shields too fragile to too many heroes undermines their whole point of existence.

If you’re looking for more ways to handle double shields, then it will best be achieved by a team comp that, when played well, can either push through the shields or flank around them. Both Orisa and Sigma suffer at close range.

If anything we need more shields and cc.

I mean Symm is anti-shield, always has been even in her other stages with her piercing orbs…

And we saw how that worked.

'sides do we need a reminder of how the devs address things like long lasting metas?

Either poke nerfs to the meta heroes, or outlandish buffs to the counters.

And when those don’t work add something to change up the game entirely.

Common pattern.

nah. The game has dive heroes who would ideally do very well against shields. However, we need to nerf Reaper, Moira, Sigma, and Orisa to give survivability to dive heroes. But the devs need to be careful to keep double shield as a viable and a counterable comp.

every time this topic comes up I’m going to suggest returning barrier piercing to Syms right click.

No, that’s just bruteforcing it. We just need the flankers be viable since they ignore shields altogether.

We also have heroes that negates shields and enables entire teams like Lucio and Mei.

Lucio allows his team to close distances quickly, Mei makes a barrier that blocks damage both ways. Both enables their entire team to quickly overrun defensive positions with little to no coordination needed.

Buff flankers and other heroes like these, and it won’t matter how strong shields are.
