It seems like if the hidden MMR is set at a certain SR, the game will try its hardest to let make you stay there. If i approach my season peak games get unwinable always a stomp for the other team no matter how good i play.
On the other hand if i drop a bit games get super easy stomps for me.
Are you sure you don’t just get harder games when you climb because you’re a higher sr? Could make sense that you lose when the enemy is better, also there’s a mental aspect of reaching your peak which will make you play worse
It does move, it’s similar to SR but it doesn’t have to move up when you win or down when you lose, it just judges your performance based on numbers to see where it thinks you should be, it doesn’t actually affect the games you get placed in but it does affect how much sr you gain/lose
The matchmaker can’t make you lose games. Games should be harder as you climb. Also, consider that the matchmaker would have to focus entirely on you and ignore the other 11 people in the match just to keep you from passing a certain SR.
I have no problem playing in diamond on support and rolequeue, also this is not my main. Thats why im so triggered because while i have no problem staying in diamond, im stuck between 2900 and 3000 here. Becaue every single time i approach my peak 2950 i get unwinable games that are complete stomps for the enemy.
That sounds like a mental thing, you will play worse when you are getting close to milestones, took me into the double digits of GM games to finally win one then it’s easy to climb further when you’ve passed that barrier
It can be, doesnt have to. Beside your hidden MMR there are many other points which influence your match.
-Your tankpicks
-Voicechat
-Smurfs
-Onetricks
-Usual throwers / leavers / toxic ppl
-performance on each player (if they play a good round or bad one)
-Finally: your performance and how well u play
But as example: Im not a good tank, i know that. I still wanted to push my tank rank to diamond. 3 times i got close to be there, only 1 win left. 1 time we got destroyed by a widow smurf. happens. 2nd time my 2nd tank was a flankhog, my shield last only so long on hard choke: we got full hold. 3rd time: imagine, im 2990, i got into a 3.3 - 3.4k SR match, facing a master tank. How is this even fair? Dude was 34xx but still master badge. Okay, no problem, lets do it. On Rein battle, i outclassed him, we capped Numbani fast, and made it to checkpoint. they switch to dive, im not good at playing dive. I stay Rein, but we only capped with 1min left…on Defence, we got rolled also because Widow kept picking our supps. Thankfully noone blamed the loss on me. But i felt bad, it was from my POV a unwinable match for me. I can only do so much, especially as a nontank player.
mindset is keeping you from climbing, poor mindset. Usually games become harder because you are “engaging your limits” and your carry potential starts somwhere 500 elo below current.
Games should be harder as you climb, but it shouldn’t make as much of a difference within a couple hundred SR. And the difference in matches is huge when you get on a streak.
The matches feel like 1000sr difference even though its still within the same rank. I can lose a few games in silver, be 100sr in the hole, turn around and my team basically win 5v6 without me. Are they in silver? Is the enemy? Yes they are, but the system somehow knows its my teams turn to win the game. And someone on the other team must be on a big winning streak and needs to be brought in line as well.
Its terribly manipulative and very obvious to anyone who has been playing for even a few months. Can it be overcome? Of course. Does it ruin the game? Not really. I still enjoy the game, but the matchmaker definitely makes me roll my eyes.
Once in awhile? Sure, I’ll buy that. But nearly every single time, and with high predictability in both directions? I call foul.
They might get excited if they are about to rank up or depressed if they are about to rank down, but I dont think they play differently enough to be able to predict the outcome nearly every single time. I believe it could be partly due to anxiety, but not as blatant, and not as often.
Pretty much everyone I’ve seen always fumbles when they’re about to get promoted, you just make more mistakes if it’s something you care about, high stake games always are lower quality gameplay that’s a well known thing in pretty much everything
Ok, but what about players that dont really care about their rank, or have goals, experiencing the same thing? Must be someone else’s anxiety in that case? Sorry I just dont buy that excuse, especially not every single person every single time.
