Does Hanzo want to kill Genji?

So i have always wondered what the deal was between them after the video was released and it left a question in my mind. Does Hanzo after finding out his brother is alive, still want to kill him and if so why?

I think he would’ve killed Genji by now then…

But do you think he can i mean in the video Genji clearly wiped the floor with him so is it now a thing that he isnt strong enough to anymore or is something stopping him from actually trying?

That is a good question…especially when he drew back his arrow after he revealed himself. I think maybe because he wants to bury the past putting his ghosts behind him.

Hanzo can assissinate Genji if he wants to, and Genji can do the same to Hanzo. The one on defense will always lose. Hanzo is glad that Genji is alive, they do not want to kill each other.

I don’t think Hanzo wants to kill Genji, moreso, he’s very ashamed of himself killing Genji (or so he thought) and the things he’s done since.

I think the short is basically pointing to Hanzo having to decide which direction his life is going.

Genji probably wants him in Overwatch, whilst in-game interactions show talon really wants him to join them.

He’d already accepted a reality where Genji was dead and that being his fault; it’s probably easier for him to continue with that familiarity than to accept this new information that not only is Genji alive but he’s already forgiven him. Because how can that be real?

Who knows though. Hanzo’s complicated.

Bless Doomfist for trying so hard.

Does Genji being Cyborg have a negative effect on Hanzo or does he accept his brother for what he has become?

He’s only seen him like that for a few seconds in Dragons so it’s hard to say.

While the voice lines aren’t canon gospel, I still think ā€œYou may call yourself my brother, but you are not the Genji I knew.ā€ gives a clue where he’s coming from, but I’m not sure if that rejection is Hanzo’s opinion of Genji’s new cyborg enhancements or of his new attitude which has also changed dramatically since Hanzo last saw him.

I mean, he’s not wrong. Genji is a very different person both in body and mind since Hanzo last killed him. Which I guess means that even though his brother is technically still alive, the Genji he knew still died that day. So he’s gotta come to terms with both of those things now.

Could you say Genji actually still is dead and that the Cyborg parts is what is keeping the body moving making him more omnic that human because when i look at his basic skin the man is more machine than human but when looking at his blackwatch skin it very clearly shows just what little is left of his human body

I think Hanzo is buried in guilt and shame. I think the brothers love each other, and I doubt Hanzo wants to make sure he really kills him this time. Honestly, he probably has a hard time dealing with Genji’s state (because he did it) and the fact he went years thinking he betrayed the only family he likely had left.

I also feel that Sojiro would have never wanted the brothers to fall apart this far, to the point his eldest son would kill to honor him and the clan.

It was unfortunate circumstances, and I do feel like eventually Hanzo will try to forgive himself since Genji forgave him. He…is just a hot mess right now.

God I hope so

He was pretty guilt ridden after ā€œkillingā€ Genji the first time, I doubt he wants to do it again.

The ā€˜Dragons’ cinematic shows Hanzo most difficult moment.

He had somehow come to peace with him needing to atone for killing his brother and he would have fought until he’d (probably) find release in a warrior’s death.

When he discovers that the ā€œassassinā€ is no other than Genji, his whole world crumbles. He wonders if he has a purpose, what his life meant until that day and what had his brother become. He doesn’t even accept that the half cyborg is actually his brother though he very well knows it is because he shouts: ā€œIt’s not like in our father’s stories, you were a fool to believe them!ā€.

Genji leaves telling that he has forgiven him, and so he must do himself while also attempting to give him a new purpose as he offers Hanzo to get back into the world around him and make a choice about what he will be (which I consider it being Genji telling Hanzo to decide if he wants to join Overwatch or Talon, Genji might be well aware that Talon wants the Shimada empire at their side).

I don’t think Genji is dead in any physical sense no, just relying on his cybernetics to continue living (relatively) normally. He mentioned that not accepting the enhancements would have meant not being able to walk again, which I think implies either that without his those cybernetics he’d still be alive (but in a wheelchair), or that he was just being dramatic.

He’s not a machine though, and could never be an omnic since he wasn’t manufactured in a factory by Omnica (even though he’s probably often mistaken for one at a glance).

I’d like to think that something happened between Blackwatch and present-day that resulted in him forfeiting his remaining left arm. Either due to an accident or from being coerced by Moira to let her perfect his capabilities/chassis or whatever, but…

I think it’s more likely that the skin art is just a bit misleading/inconsistent where story is concerned and we’re supposed to believe he’s just wearing more armor now.

Doubtful. Hanzo deeply regrets allowing his clan to manipulate him into killing his brother in the first place. Hanzo’s frustration towards Genji post-reveal is an empty threat, but at the same time, we must remember that Hanzo is self-destructive.

He refuses to move past his mistakes.
He refuses to accept Genji’s new life.
He refuses to acknowledge a future free from his clan’s endeavors.

It might be a bit of a dark thing to say, but if Hanzo wants to do away with anybody, it’s himself.

Yup. I thought it was a nice touch with the Halloween victory poses that he wasn’t even sticking a limb out of the grave like everyone else. Just chilling 6’ under like ā€œYea, that’s fair. I belong here.ā€

Exactly. He was willing to have his throat slit to put it basic. Genji even said he won’t grant him that wish.

well he never wanted to kill Genji, I think he and Genji were forced to have a deathmatch when they reached age of 18

If they would have refused, I think their father might have killed them both or order his yakuza to do the dirtywork

In regards to the lore that we currently have…

No. Hanzo does not want to kill Genji. Hanzo is a very conflicted man, which has been the point to his story. He struggles with what he was raised to believe in, honor, supporting the family, and ruling an empire, versus his love for his brother. In the twin dragons video, it’s obvious that before Hanzo knew his brother was still alive that he deeply regretted what happened and loved Genji still.

This we know to be especially true because after upholding his ā€œdutyā€ against his first fight with Genji, he abandoned his right to rule the family criminal empire.

He doesn’t know what he wants any more. He’s trying to find himself, and do what he thinks is right. He’s not out for power, we know this because he’s refused Talon’s invitations to join them (though ironically, he’s interested in Junkrat’s treasure). He hates what he did to Genji, this is evident in one his voice lines on Illios. ā€œSuch beauty, wasted on the soul of a killer.ā€

He hates Genji, because Genji represents everything Hanzo did wrong in his life. Genji is a constant reminder that Hanzo tried to murder his own brother for a criminal empire. Genji believes Hanzo can do better, he believes he can become a hero which he alludes to at the end of the twin dragons video.

Hanzo has to find himself, to realize who he truly is and move on from what happened. His character arc is about his struggle with his actions, and his love for his family. Genji and Hanzo even have a voice line interaction with Genji alluding to how he still cares about his father.

Genji: What would our father think of what we’ve become, brother?
Hanzo: It’s hard to say who he’d be more disappointed by.

I think Hanzo is antagonistic towards Genji because of his deeply conflicted feelings of self hatred, and his failure to live up to their family name in his eyes. He hates what he did, but admitting it to himself and moving on to be a better person seems to be a rough road for him.

I like their lore, wish blizz would do more with the game’s lore in general.
