Ana Moira Brig Baptiste are all AoE healers to some capacity. On top of that Lucio already in the game is an AoE healer, Zen’s ult is a massive AoE 300HPS ult and Mercy was reworked so her ult is ALSO AoE like I don’t understand it.
EDIT: Also Soldier 76, arguably the best AoE healer we’ve got.

Byproduct of damage creep, I’d imagine
Betcha the next support we get is single target, probably in a way similar to Mercy.

I think the next hero will be a tank and the Blizzcon hero be Echo who I PRAY is a single target healer.

It is to encourage more people to heal, I believe. If Baptiste was not AOE, I would literally just play him as a DPS. At least now I will try to heal.
They said they started with his weapon (grenade launcher of healing and joy) and worked up, so nah, Baptiste has AoE healing because he was always meant to.
The way his healing works is really intuitive for dps players though, which is great because thats been needed.
I am not really sure how that contradicts what I stated. But it is an interesting fact. I must have missed whenever they said that.
I think it’s silly to consider Ana an “AoE” healer. She shines on ST. The nade’s healing is weak in comparison to the others you listed.
That being said, what is your solution? ST healers? They wouldn’t be played. Look at Mercy. Zen is primarily ST and I’d argue his healing ability isn’t why people pick him. His Ult, damage potential, and debuff orb are. If Zen didn’t have those, he’d never see play.
It is the nature of the beast when you have so many characters that can deal AoE damage. A better question would be does every DPS need to have AoE capabilities. Ashe, Junkrat, Soldier, Torb, Reaper, etc. etc.
But when you have so many ways to deal AoE damage, you need just as many to recover said damage.
oh yeah that next support hero in 2022 after we get 2 more tanks and then 15 DPS.
What? Most of the heroes we’ve gotten since launch have been support. Ana, Sombra, Orisa, Doomfist, Moira, Brigitte, Wrecking Ball, Ashe, Baptiste.
That doesn’t mean every healer needs to be AoE. Also Ana is an AoE healer to some capacity which is literally what I said. To some capacity.
Every healer isn’t AoE. Almost every healer has an AoE possibility, but few are actually AoE healers. I feel like you’re confusing ability with specialty.
A majority of the healers in this game are not AoE specialty healers.
Zen, Mercy, and Ana aren’t AoE specialty healers.
Brigitte and Lucio are. Moira occasionally.
Baptiste has AoE healing abilities, but we don’t know where he’ll place in the grand scheme so who knows. But I doubt he’ll be synonymous with AoE healing - like I doubt people will pick him for that.
There’s not even that much AoE damage.
Whats good about AoE healing is that it encourages teamwork instead of lone wolfing it and nerfs dive, which was a priority when Moira and Brig were being added.
I’m more than happy to make Mercy’s ult a single-target beam, just saying.
Also, in order to get the most out of Moira’s healing, you have to think about AoE healing. Similar to that, I think Baptiste is going to be a support where maximizing AoE healing is going to be needed for top level play.
But I do agree that saying Zen, Mercy, and Ana are AoE healers based only on their ult/an ability is kind of silly.
More spam in the game (i.e. junk primary, hanzo storm arrow, ashe dynamite, phara primary, etc.) means more AOE heals necessary
You said Solider76 that means we can discuss other dps characters!
Sombra is a single target healer
Mei only heals Mei
Bastion only heals Bastion
Reaper only heals Reaper
Lastly Roadhog only heals Roadhog but he’s a tank
All her healers shall thou to forever will be AOE. In the words of Robo monks in Nepal. You can run from it but destiny still arrives. Thanos shapes finger making all supports have AOE just like they all have self-regen health ability. Now down to you support overlord Thanos dragon.
Jeff said it himself.
You either need aoe or great throughput to be a healer.
Mercy has neither.
We need a single target support that provides damage reduction instead of healing
