Does Elo hell exist?

I’ve been thinking about this for a while now, I also see a lot of people complaining in the forums about their rank being unfair because “bad teammates” etc.

I decided to put this to the test by making an ult account that was completely unaffected by a solid hidden MMR, and playing a lot of competitive to see where I ended up. Guess where both accounts ended up…

Within 10SR of each other. In fact, I’ve done this over 4 seasons and both these accounts have always been within roughly 150SR of each other.

After messing with this I’ve personally decided elo hell is a myth. I’m quite obviously a low Diamond/high Platinum player and I’m fine with that, and I don’t think I’ll be climbing any higher until I improve drastically, nor will I DESERVE to until I improve drastically.

People need to stop blaming team members for their rank and start taking responsibility for themselves. Sure, luck is always a factor, you’ll always have leavers, throwers etc, but guess what, that’s something EVERYONE has to deal with, it’s not something that just happens to you. Luck may be a factor but it’s in no way comparable to to how much of a factor SKILL is. Skill counts for everything when it comes to your rank, no player ever made it to Masters through ‘luck’.

If you’ve found it tough to break past a certain barrier when it’s come to your SR, most likely you’ve reached your true skill level, until you improve that is. Blaming teammates for not being able to climb isn’t going to change that. The only common denominator between competitive mode and your current SR is you.

My alt account is PsychoMantis#11694 check it if you don’t think I’m being honest.

If you’re playing solo then yes elo hell is real, if you’re playing in a party then it’s less real and the real elo hell is roughly around diamond.

I was playing SOLO on my ALT. Still ended up at the same SR as my main…

So you are at the correct rank…

Yes I believe I’m a low Diamond/high Plat player. I don’t claim to be better than what I am and I don’t struggle to climb back to that rank after a loss streak, it’s the rank I spend most of my time at.

That’s why i stated the hell to be around diamond, for example i was under 3500 season 7 and then got up to 4159 in the current season, all solo and have been easily staying above 4K. Playing solo at/above diamond is mostly about getting lucky with the team you get. That changes at the more extreme end of 4300+ where you have to be insanely good.

This may be true for you. But what about all the people in Bronze, Silver, Gold, Plat etc, that claims they can’t climb out because of ELO hell?

To answer your question, it doesn’t exist.

Under diamond it doesn’t exist, at 3500-3999 it kind of exists.

No it doesn’t, thats only for your experience.

While you may get unlucky with your teammates in any given game, this won’t be true in the long run. There is no such thing as elo hell.

Bad players, throwers, griefers and what not are more likely to be a part of the opposing team unless you yourself is a part of the problem.

Most of them are below average players suffering from the Dunning Kruger effect.

Which is exactly what I said. People being unrealistic about what their true ability actually is.

I do however think that everyone feels the deserve to be higher than what they are at some level or another, or at least, they WANT to be higher.

No, don’t be silly. The obvious reason is that the system is rigged against them and constantly pair them with bad teammates and great opponents. /s

I want to be a higher rank. I know that I’ve fallen from diamond into plat because of my lack of focus in games the last two seasons. It’s up to me to get better and get back into diamond, not five random people assigned to me by a match maker.

That was exactly my attitude as well.

This might be more true for the player that only plays a specific role/hero but for someone that fills for the team/tries to work with the team while holding a decent win% on the heroes that they mostly play it’s a real hell.

Elaborate as to why. I don’t see a difference in that it would be impossible for a flex player to climb.

I’ll say it once again, if you’re above your current SR, your team will on average be better than the opposing team. If the problems are griefers/throwers/trolls, they are more likely to be on the opposing team unless you are a part of the problem.

This is true regardless of role, wether you’re a tank, support, dps or flex player.

It’s far more likely for you to get the one tricking dps player or a player that refuses to swap heroes to counter in general while you yourself could swap to counter if you were not filling some important role like tank/healer. The most typical player that you will see alot of around diamond is the “gm smurf” that doesn’t care about winning on his/her “alt account”.

And… this isn’t true if you’re not flexing?

So if I’m a support main I dont get a one tricking dps player who refuses to swap?

This makes 0 sense.
