Does anyone use PTR

Just curious do any of you guys use the PTR? I feel like they should just throw the changes into quick play, and wait 2 weeks to put into comp.

PTR is only used to make sure there aren’t any server-breaking bugs, promotional material for new heroes and pros doing their private scrims.

While the PTR could be used for player feedback, Blizzard has said a very very small percentage of players from live play the PTR which makes feedback by the players unreliable.

Can’t they test the server breaking bugs internally? Others games are fine without PTR. Pros can’t practice scrims in the original game?

I do not. Rarely do they revert anything on PTR. It is more for finding critical bugs.

And more importantly, PTR also exists because console patches have an approve time frame before they are allowed to go live. So Blizz put them on the PTR for you to goof around with while waiting for Sony/MS to approve the changes for their system.

exactly my point, if they are taking feedback from a small percentage of players, wont the outcome be extremely biased?

Anything could happen. Just because internally it’s fine, does not mean it could not suddenly break when it goes to PTR or potentially Live when changes are being made.

Pros play scrims on PTR to test new balance changes, see what it will bring, so no they can’t do that on Live unless the patch is already Live which means they’ll be behind.

Edit: You can’t really blame players for not playtesting balance changes on the PTR, there is no gain there. Most people will go there, test it out a couple times and log back off. Regardless of feedback, Blizz will most likely not change anything anyways.

Dont work like that unfortunately. But yes too few ppl use ptr jeff even stated so but this isnt abnormal.

I’d use it more if it didn’t have most of the issues normal overwatch has with only slight improvements for a few heroes. I can test that in the practice range, and that’s how I choose to use the ptr.

Wanna see real numbers? The devs need to bust out a “tank patch”

Ptr would be swarming.

Yeah I use it, but probably might uninstall since ptr isn’t what it needs to be used for.

I use it to test out how new changes and heroes feel, but I usually stop after about a week of the new patch.

The devs do all of their balance testing internally. The PTR is for polish and server stability.

I see, but other games do it just fine? like League and fornite

I used to be honestly I don’t see the point. I mean yeah it’s a little fun to get a taste of new things coming out but XP from matches doesn’t carry over and most matches are complete garbage.

No one takes PTR seriously so the matches are usually complete one sided stomps. Add to all that Blizzard pretty much never responds to feed back about the PTR there isn’t much point.

Plus I got tired of downloading multi gigabyte patches on a regular basis just to keep the PTR up to date.

Every now and then I record gameplay on the PTR. Its fun to record reactions to the changes firsthand. However the ptr as a whole is so pointless.

only to fight fuey500 when the torb changes went live

he lost

Not anymore. There’s far better uses for the space and giving feedback is utterly pointless.

Only ever open it up to trying new heroes/adjustments in the training grounds. Usually takes less than 10 minutes and I’m done. Should probably free up HDD space with it though.

Something they could easily remedy by turning it into a real-time test realm and giving players incentives to take part on testing.
But no, it’s a demo realm instead and the vast majority of feedback we give them is either ignored or not responded to.

Nope. Deleted it couple weeks ago cause it took so much memory anyways. + I barely use it regardless if theres new heroes/maps in there someday.
