I’m playing overwatch 2 on PS5 since it’s launch. around season 3 I started to have these unusual fps drops right before I die and if I look at the killcam, it looks like my character is briefly lagging out/walking in a straight line right when it happens. It doesn"t happen all the time, it really depends against what characters, but it’s frustrating enough that I haven’t touched comp since then.
Although my hardwired connection is perfectly fine, I’ve done everything to try to resolve the issue, like changing my ISP, getting a new monitor, cables, even changing the console itself.
I can also give up on playing any custom games, especially 1v1 arena where my fps regularly drop when new characters spawn in. I’ve been looking to find a solution for almost 2 years now, but it just seems to be unsolvable. never had any of these issues in ow1. I keep playing it because it once was my favourite game but now I feel like I’m just going to let down my teammates because of said issues, especially when I get into high elo games or high stakes situations. Whether the blizzard support nor sony or my new ISP haven’t gotten me a viable solution. I’m just screwed and could honestly just uninstall the game. The only thing I haven’t tried is switching plattform and trying it on xbox. Friend on xbox told me that they don’t have a lot of fps issues except when widow ults, so i don’t know if I should even try.
I spoke to sony already, they asked me if it’s only happening in overwatch which it does so I said yes, they then automatically concluded that it has to do with the game, said I should talk to blizzard support. It’s an endless cycle.
Not a console player here, so my suggestions may not be worth much.
If you’re on a wireless network, see if there’s a wired option for the PS5. If so, go Wired.
When was the last time you cleaned out your intake and outflow vents on your PS5?
Do you have anything near your vents? Wall? Books? Clutter?
If you have the option to change your video settings, try bringing the resolution down. If you’re playing at 4k, bring it down to 1080p. See if that helps.
Do you have shadow details set to high? Character models? Skins? Check your settings to see if you could dial some stuff back that you don’t really notice all that much. For me, turning Shadows to low on the quality vastly improved my framerate and performance.
I changed my ps5 twice and I’m playing in a 2 month old ps5 slim now, literally the same problems, right as I plugged it in. I’m hardwired and my router is perfectly fine, cables as well. tried all different resolutions on different monitors that can output 120hz.
I am starting to believe it is just a PS5 problem. Overwatch had that frame drop bug at the beginning of the season only on PS5. And XDefiant has something similar going on this update. I heard about similar problems on Valorant PS5.
Not sure, it’s just a piece of junk. I had to replace the controller I just got because of stick drift too. Always buy the warranty on those controllers because it is cheaper than replacing them.
