Does anyone has any genuinely favorable thing to say about the Map Pool thing?

This is one of those things that keeps that Blizzard meme alive. The game has a billion problems to fix. Literally no one is asking for this. And Blizzard goes ahead and decides it would be a good idea to restrict an already small amount of available maps. I don’t remember seeing this as a requested feature anywhere. Sure, It’d be fine with this if the game had 100+ maps or something, but that’s not the case. Feels like they were trying to find a cheap way to add a map vote, similar to the idea of hero bans (dynamic, user centered features), but they just couldn’t bother. That would be the right way to do this, if the idea is trying to give players more control over their experience. It’s laughable that their excuse for this is “to give seasons an identity”. The Seasons aren’t even themed to anything story related, what identity is there to give them? So this is the “Season of 19”? What an amazing theme Blizzard!

One of the things that was still making this game somewhat bearable was the map and hero variety. I could bear the pain of firing this game up once a month and play for a couple of hours without seeing the same map, without seeing the same heroes. I could tolerate having to play some atrocious maps here and there, since I probably wouldn’t be seeing them again that day. Maybe I could even consider playing the game again in the same week!

But now I’m getting freaking Temple of Anubis 3 times in the same 2 hour long gaming session. That combined with this shield fest meta, puts the nail in the coffin for me. I’ve played this game once this month, which is absurd when I think it had the potential to be my most played game (as it was since beta up to Season 3). It’s not just about playing the maps I don’t like. I’m also starting to enjoy the ones I like less. It could still be my go to game, but they keep getting it wrong.

At this point, I can’t even start the game. How did it come to this? A game that I used to love so much.

I don’t see many people talking about this. I’m so inactive lately that I don’t even follow what’s been up with the community. Am I the only one that feels that way?

Most people love the map pool thing. They might not next season, but this season, there’s a lot of the unpopular maps are out.

Not being able to play a few maps that I like is a small price to pay for the greater good of not having Paris and HLC in my comp games. Huge fan of competitive map pools.

I personally don’t care. I hate every map in this game, some more than others, so I’m indifferent.

People were somewhat complaining about it early on because it gets repetitive and my biggest problem with it is I just know Blizz is going to do this again with a map pool that’ll make me wish I was instead dunked into a pool of sulfuric acid. We will get HLC and Paris in one map pool and it will be a black day.

I would guess Blizzard engineers did.

No lunar colony, no Paris

Yeah, enjoy it until their season comes in. I’d rather play these once a day than play them every 2 hours. Oh well.

At least there’s no Horizon or Paris

as someone who hates eichenwald, kings row and hanamura I’m not having a good time haha

It’s for sure good that Paris and Horizon are out of the pool, but I miss so much my favorite maps (Numbani, junkertown, ilios, oasis, dorado I thought this one was in the pool but I never played it in hundreds of games)

like except havana, I feel all the maps are super closed like kings row and eichenwald, and I prefer wide open maps (junkertown, oasis, ilios)

imo, they should’ve remove the maps that people don’t like (horizon and paris) from the competitive pool and that’s it, because I’m getting so bored now

IT’s a half baked idea imo. If there was some kind of player vote it would mean something. But as it is it just means your stuck with a map you hate for weeks/months. Until it’s switched over.

It’s like people don’t realize that the map pool isn’t going to permanently leave those maps out. They left out hated maps to make people stomach the change yes. But they will eventually return. In some season you will play lunar or Paris in one in six games rather than one in ten as you did before rotation. Those seasons will be miserable

I just made a post about it then saw this

This energy literally makes no sense. How do you even have enough energy to waste on hatred and then proceed to waste it on all the maps of this game. I feel bad for you because you either have poor word choice or a poor mentality.

Personally, I love some maps in the game but man… some maps, especially Paris and Ilios, provide consistently poor experiences.

The only reason I like map pool is to dodge these maps.

I’m indifferent overall though; they said they are removing it. As long as I don’t go back to Paris once a day and Kings Row once a week I’ll be fine either way.

Yes, I hate every map in this game, to varying degrees. Some are tolerable, while some I just outright refuse to play on. And it’s not like I hate every aspect of the maps. There are portions that are genuinely fun to play on, however Blizzard constantly uses my least favorite thing you could on a map, and that’s a choke point. Some maps, like Anubis for example, is nothing but choke points. That makes attacking on these maps immensely unfun for me.

Oh, and get off your high horse you condescending twit. Disliking, or in some cases, hating the maps in this game doesn’t mean I have a “poor mentality”, it means I don’t like the maps in this game.

It is ranked, its anyway not fun anymore :man_shrugging:

honestly i think it’s reasonable to remove maps that even the devs can see are unbalanced enough to warrant getting out of the map pool.

it’s not like they removed the maps from the game, just from certain modes.
i’m pretty sure they are trying to figure out what they could do to fix them up so they would become elligible again.

Lol “condescending twit” is a bit much

Disliking maps is different from hating them. I just took the word “hate” at face value.

And it really is a poor mentality to have such an animosity towards all the maps, which is what you originally stated. Don’t be mad because I read what you typed as you typed it.

You clearly didn’t read my post as I typed it. I said “hate to varying degrees”. If you had half a brain you could take that sentence to mean more than “Absolutely despise everything”, and more “some I hate, some I just dislike”. And telling someone they have a “poor mentality” just because they don’t like something in a video game makes you a very condescending twit.

What you originally said. This is what I made my original response to.

Not any of your clarifications. Get out your feelings lol
