I’ve seen a few topics about having an mmr reset when ow2 launches and I’ve seen mixed feed back. so what do you want to happen? personally I think it’s very necessary for an mmr reset for ow2 especially because it’s basically a completely different game. However, I don’t think we will get one because all the cry baby streamers will cry about getting an mmr reset and blizzard being blizzard will favour the stweamers because they always do.

It wouldn’t make any sense to have the same MMR for a sequel.
I’m hoping the devs completely change rank in general for 5v5.
I have little faith they will change things but all we can do is wait n see what they will unveil.

I’ve always been against MMR resets, but even I think this time it’ll be a bit necessary. Like you said, it’s gonna be completely different, as if they added a whole new comp card in arcade, which has always gotten a fresh start for each new mode.
Why would it be necessary?
What exactly do you hope would be achieved by a MMR reset?

Honestly i dont care about if reseting or not cause i know i can climb to the rank im currently in. My only issue is if we gonna start ow2 with like season 35 or 40 at this point would be so dumb LUL

At the end of the day the game will be a “sequel”, a 2.0 even for PvP. Everything will change as we know it. We shouldn’t start cemented to where we were at the end of OW1

To me, as someone who has barely touched rank in the few years that I did play.
I think a MMR reset makes sense, if we going by the idea that majority if not all the characters will have substantial changes to their kit in one way or another.

If they stop with 5v5 and actually start doing something about smurfs, yeah, sure. Drastic change-up of the meta would be fun to restart everything.
If they continue with 5v5 and keep allowing smurfs, who cares. Ranked won’t matter anyway.

Will the system be able to handle a possible large influx of older accounts with severely outdated MMR vs Current OW players?
Maybe it’d get balanced out, though I slightly fear something like this…
Old players returns for OW2 MP, gets stomped at their old rank because people have improved, keep getting stomped before the system is quick enough to put them in fair matches, quits OW2
Edit: While we don’t really know much about the matchmaking system, I’ll assume the best, that it can account for these older players and deal with them.
Give us an MMR reset please.

It’s gonna be a new game with a new balance philosophy with numerous new heroes and reworked heroes, as well as a new main game mode. If there was ever a time, it’s then.
Yeah but look a soldier he’s not getting a huge change, a godly soldier player will still be a godly soldier player on launch of 2.
i dont care if they do or not actually. pros and cons for both. maybe facing way better players and possibly gm players before they climb to gm doesnt sound exciting lol or the cons are im stuck in gold but hey im sure i belong in this rank since ive always been gold. dont think its the games fault im average

Those first few weeks are going to be unbalanced anyway, I don’t think that’s avoidable. Maybe keeping old MMR will help, but I feel like players returning might end up stuck in a rank they really shouldn’t be at and won’t enjoy playing at, and OW’s MMR isn’t that great at deranking you unless you really try imo.
I’m not too bothered really. On the same side as Drunkinjedi, it’d be nice to have an MMR reset, but there are cons to it too.
But why not shake things up and see how it goes? Not much to lose, it’ll all get balanced out within a month supposedly
