Do you think certain streamers/youtubers contibute to Smurfs?

Going to be general here, but do you think that Youtubers and streamers who smurf contribute to the problem by encouraging others to do the same? Why or not? Additionally, do you believe smurfs is an issue that Blizz needs to address?

It’s possible and its definitely a popular trend but I dont think its a significant amount of them. I dont have any stats to back that up though. I do think smurfing is an issue but its more of a symptom than a problem in my opinion. If they start incentivizing people to try harder and they can convince players that ranked is a serious gamemode worthy of being taken seriously, the smurfing problem will diminish. Most smurfs I come across seem to be in the ā€œidc anymoreā€ boat not the ā€œi want to be like ____ streamerā€ boat

Yea I don’t think you can suddenly make up a narrative for a whole community but keep trying

In my opinion if you have smurfed and you condone that sort of behaviour your should be permanently barred from contenders and of ever having a chance of joining OWL.

Yes. Its very obvious except u cant have 21 accounts on pc just buy buying the game once. Console is a way bigger problem. Why the hell iz sony and Microsoft even letting people make so many accounts is beyond me. Blows my mind.

I don’t think it will necessarily make other people follow the example and smurf more themselves, but it definitely gives people the impression that ruining others their experience is the norm (as even streamers do it). It likely makes the average player even care less about the game than they already do and dicourages new players from joining.

After all, would you willingly play a game where the good players deliberately go stomp on the worse players because they’re bored otherwise?

Youtubers, streamers and pros boost accounts for money. Unless you’re XQC or… like 5 others… they don’t make enough money from just streaming alone.

It sells more accounts for Blizz. I doubt they’ll ever talk about it lol.

I was there before. I watched youtubers like Stylosa (huge mistake) and I thought smurfing looked awesome and fun. So i bought a smurf account to be in a lower rank, but later on I realized how horrible it is for people who are genuinely stuck in that rank so now I use it to practice my widow in comp at around a similiar rank that my main account is.

the argument about smufing not being a problem is dumb. they forget it ruins actual peoples games and adds rng and grinding into a supposedly skill based competitive game.
you should not get sr for being lucky or because you were able to grind out more matches.

people are signing over their time to play a comp match in good faith it will be a reasonably fair match, a smurf is actually stealing your time. it should be taken seriously by the devs.

Yes and no.
There are 4 types of accounts here :

  • Mains. We all know that
  • Alts. Same SR/Rank than mains, used to play different roles mainly
  • Smurfs low level. Those are mainly Alts just going fast on their way up. Not trying to do harm, simply the MMR is not instant, takes time.
  • Smurfs mid-high level. Yeah those dudes are the ones throwing to be in a specific rank and then DESTROYING people for fun for a few matches.

I am cool with all the first 3, the 4th has to go. Those dudes should be straight up banned if they receive sabotage reports but … we can’t send replays and see how people do this so yeah, its bad.

Unless they’re duo boosting, nope not that much of an issue.

Which youtuber smurfs? I think you are mistaking alt accounts and educational climbing videos with smurfing.
Smurfing as a term means that you are playing on a lower elo on purpose as a higher elo player, in order to stomp other players.
Do I personaly believe smurfing is a problem? No. Looking at the forums it’s mostly silver and bronze bracket that complains but i honestly doubt that they can tell a difference between a smurf and someone who got elims in their game (no offense, but thats my observation).
I personaly love and watch when streamers do unranked to t500, tehy usually start in my elo and i learn alot watching them, or in rare raaaare cases playing against them.

Yes.

They contribute to make commonplace of a problem to a large audience.

Yes they need but no they won’t because money

Um, first of all, no smurf will stop you from getting the rank you deserve.
Second of all it’s more team based than skill based. It’s balanced, patched and made around teams and teamplay, not individual skill.
People who play this game seriously scrimm it instead of comp.
Comp is for casuals to test your skills against other players, and the sr will base itself more on your stats in your rank than on your win/loses (untill you get to diamond, where stats don’t matter cuz at this point the game expects you to understand the teamplay aspect)

Smurfing alone is never a problem.
However, deliberately throwing games repeatably to get into a rank so that they could enjoy slaughtering less-skilled player is.

The only ones who defend smurfing are the smurfs themselves.

Yes they do because bois do what their heros do ( idk why but they do the same and say the same… No personality found 404)

Mostly not. Because those guys usually are Masters / GM / T500 and not in Plat to pub-stomp. Their smurfs get moved out of there quickly.
Smurfing in general is only a problem when it’s abused to feel good in a lower rank.
Having alt accounts on it’s own is not a problem at all though.
